Hello,

So I have a problem I'm going to see my therapist for the first time on Feb 28 and yesterday I went to my general doctor because I've been having some stomach problems and I told him about my severe anxiety and how it's gotten worse to the point were I even have trouble speaking. So he then prescribed a medicine called Buspar and this is where my problem begins you see I've never been diagnosed with anxiety but the symptoms are right on point and I've taken a couple of certified test and they all said severe anxiety but it is still a self-diagnoses not from a doctor. So should I start taking Buspar or should I wait until I see a therapist? Because I've read stories online how some medicines can actually worsen mental disorders because it was treating the wrong disorder. To add on to the conflict I can't even go to college anymore because my fear and anxiety has gotten worse I feel like something bad is going to happen if I go to college whether it be stroke, heart attack, psychotic break etc....., these fears are ruining my life that's why I think I should start on Buspar but then another fear of mine is that I start taking this med and a underlying illness like schizophrenia or something gets triggered. So I was hoping if someone can give me some advice and maybe tell me if you're on Buspar or if it worked.

Hello there I can fully understand the fears you have,i think everyone who gets out in meds has the same fear and your fears and thoughts sound bang on anxiety and nothing more

I think buspar is fine to take. It's a rather weak medicine, and I did take it before, long ago. It will help you. The thoughts are anxiety only. I understand them though, I have had them all as well. You're going to be fine, therapy, correct medication, and you're on your way. I like how you ask questions though, and there's no "dumb" questions.
Let us know how you're doing as you are now on the road to getting back to feeling better. Peace

Hey dude,..Yes, buspar is a very mild medication and also a great place to start. It is ALWAYS the first line of defense against anxiety disorders. If it works for you, great! If it doesn't, then try another one until you find one that fits YOU. Certain people love it, some people hate it,..we're all different. That's why there's so many different medications available. Did the Doc offer you an anti depressant too or just that???....

Reason I ask is because you say you cant go to school,...that can be alot more than just a simple anxiety disorder generally speaking.

Enduronman,

No he didn't prescribe anti-depressant. He ask me if my anxiety was present when I'm in my house or out in public and I said both so he wrote me a prescription for Buspar and said it should help. The thing is my anxiety doesn't stop even though the attacks stop that feeling of jumping out of your skin doesn't stop that anxious feeling is horrible that's why I hope this med works. It's not that I can't go to school it's just I get all worked up because i'm scared of something bad happening unfortunately I have to continue going to class if I ever hope to have a career its just very difficult.

It reeeealllllyy sounds like you may need that little extra punch persay, like an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication to go along with the buspar IMHO.
I hate to say this but to me, it looks like the Doc forgot something here. Buspar is generally not good for people with (panic)...ONLY GAD.
If you're always fearful, then that's panic..
At least I have never heard of a case whereas Buspar (alone) worked well considering what you've presented to us here.
I would reealllyyy ask him/her to reconsider and also offer you an AD or a Benzo too depending upon how good your relationship is with your Doc..and also let them know that you plan to see a therapist on the 28th too...
Tell them yer freaking out badly!!!...(even though you may not be at the moment) because you're obviously "feeling anxious and horrible" all the time even when the panic stops...

Just some thoughts bruh.
