I've been on lexapro, on and off, for 7 years. It works very well for me, but I'm currently going through withdrawal from it after losing my insurance coverage. I've had this happen three times before, I have pretty severe symptoms each time. However, the last time I had to endure withdrawals, I was able to speed up the process, drinking detox teas and drinks from our local natural food co op. I stopped having noticeable symptoms after five days, rather than the usual 14-20 days.

I'm unsure about doing so again, however. I'm in the process of getting my insurance back, but that could take a month and there is a good chance I'd lose my insurance again the next month. (My husband goes on unemployment for a month every March/start of April when his bakery closes. Some how this causes the department of human services to think we're getting unemployment and his normal income at the same time, and they take my coverage away. Despite many conversations with them -sighs-)

So I'm trying to decide wether I should try and get back on lexapro as quickly as possible, with out rushing through cleaning it out of my system. In hopes it will take less time to kick in when I do get it back. With the risk of losing it again. Or if I should hurry the process of getting off lexapro, endure not having it for three months (when I can get my insurance coverage back for at least one year for certain) but have to wait for it to build back up in my system to get results again.

It's really a choice between having a rocky, stop-and-start two or three months, with at least some benefit from lexapro . Or being completely off the medication and starting from scratch in three months, followed by a full year of uninterrupted treatment. I can't seem to decide which would be easier on my physical, metal, and emotional being. Plus I have a 5 year old who is effected by my state of mind...

Any suggestions for me?
