Hello guys. i have been on lexapro for 3 weeks and some days now. it has helped me a lot with anxiety and panic attacks and sleeping is improved. i took it due to a chemical imbalance, bad thoughts and the stupid idea about being dp/dr. i must say that after some panic attacks i felt really different and strange to myself, i couldnt enjoy things, but i hade emotions. now i feel i am really numb. i laugh a lot and i am really happy i must say, but i dont feel the same anymore. like i am numb in some strange way. i know that i am myself and everything is real and i dont doubt it, but i feel really strange, mostly after the sun is down and when sleepy or waking up. somehow i feel disconnected when alone and i think that during these 2 months when my anxiety started i have lost something. after increasing my dosage one week ago my vision started to get blurred. my doc said that it is a side effect and it will go. it has gone but it made me feel so changed. also a strange thing is happening to me, i sleep a lot but i cannot feel like i have slept.or i go to places but somehow i dont feel the road getting there. i think lexapro made me feel like this. i have to take 20 mg for 3 more weeks, until my next doc appointment. i am thinking of taking 10 mg just to try. any advice please? any other has same issues?

i'd call your doctor and speak with them about the symptoms and lowering your dosage first, just to be safe! but it could always be your body adjusting to the new dosage and the new medication, my doctor told me that these kind of meds tend to make things worse before they start helping.
i actually had some similar symptoms when i was on lexapro, only i was just on it for about a week (10 mg as well). it gave me the numb feeling you seem to be describing after the first couple of days along with blurred vision, and it also spiked my anxiety through the roof to the point where i had to stop taking it due to my panic landing me in the hospital.
i hope you feel better though, try not to worry too much

thanks for advice. i started feeling better after two weeks on the med. first weeks were horrible but i managed to handle it. maybe it is just me, i analyse everything going on with me and i end up worrying too much. hope it gets better. i have to remind myself the good sides of the med, it regulated my sleep, made me feel better, better motivation, started to laugh again, started going out more often, able to think better and get back to study. by the way after stoping it did you feel better? are you taking some other med?

yes that is definitely the best way to go about it, keep reminding yourself of the good sides of it! it sounds like it's helped you out a lot though, im very glad to hear how much its done for you!
a word of warning though- don't google search any of your symptoms. it's one of the reasons i ended up in the hospital panicking. it'll just make you think that its more serious than it actually is. oh, after writing my last post to you i learned that it is pretty common for lexapro to make you feel kinda zombie-like! so it's just the med, you aren't losing your mind or yourself, don't worry! 8) lexapro just isn't for everyone i suppose. if it does get too much to handle, talk to you doctor about switching to a different SSRI like zoloft, but since you've been taking lexapro for a few weeks it'd be best to slowly lower your dosage first unless if your doctor tells you otherwise, just to be safe.
at the hospital i was put on xanax instead, which did wonders and i was pretty much back to normal after the first dosage (only 2.5 mg, jeez). it's helped me out a lot since then, but xanax can be addictive and it's best to make sure to take it on some sort of schedule. the only main issue im having since then is a hard time focusing my vision even though my eyes are perfectly healthy.

Yeah you're only a few weeks in, and it sounds like a little depression has developed along with your anxiety. :)

When you start to get better from your anxiety, depending on how strong it was, you're gonna go through some stuff that's weirder than you could imagine. Numbness, sadness, disconnectedness, feeling lost, alone, ah the whole shebang quite possibly. The whole readjustment process is no mean feat.

Keep the thread updated, see what happens. Lots of people will view this thread in the future with the same problem, it would be cool if you could keep updating your story.

WHICH IS HOPEFULLY A SUCCESS ONE :)
