Really interesting talk on the effects of how we perceive stress, and the importance of social connections.

Definitely worth watching.

Interesting talk, James.

It makes sense why athletes don't buckle under the huge amount of stress that comes with competing. Many of them don't see stress/pressure as a bad thing, but as a chance to overcome something and obtain a victory. Can't remember which famous sportsman said it now, but 'Pressure is a privilege'

Again touching on the first bit of the talk, whereby those who don't view stress as bad had normal mortality rates. Reminds me of something Nixon talks about on here; the embracing of anxiety, complete acceptance of it. I think when you can do such a thing, it begins to downgrade. It doesn't seem like anxiety anymore, but tension instead. If you don't view it as a bad thing, that whole 'must solve the impossible puzzle' aspect of it goes, and you can take it for what it is; tension in your muscles and a mind that can race away. Those two things are infinitely easier to work on compared to solving each and every problem your anxious condition demands you do.
