View Full Version : Plagued by the "what does life mean?" question?

Does anyone feel this? I never sought a white picket fence home or a suburban house with kids. I don't know what I want or where I'm headed exactly. But when you're not a religious person or do not believe in any said "thing" as the answer, what do you aspire to be/do? So happiness is key in my book. But from what do I derive it? That's what drives me to depression sometimes.

Serendipity,
Most ask these questions. Why do you think happiness is "key in your book"? I suspect I know, but you tell me please. So you're not religious, well that's great, either way though.
Some are some aren't. How do you feel about life today? It's okay not to know where you're headed. Do you feel urgent about this? You say you don't believe in any "thing" as the
answer, another good point. So who has your answers? You of course right? So the question about the purpose of life is a serious question, what do you do? I heard a saying
It goes like this, "whether you think you can or can't you're right". I know not real profound, but seems probable to me. Do you have things in life you're grateful for?
What is your depression like? How do you feel with it? Do you use any meditations, medications, therapies? I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm trying to know where you're at
emotionally, physically. What is your passion? What makes you feel excited? Keep on posting, the more you talk the more everyone here can help. Peace

Your problem comes from not knowing what you want and where you're headed, so naturally it makes you question life's purpose. I know exactly how you feel in fAct, this issue is the cause of my anxiety for the most part. I am not religious either, I do believe in a god/higher power though I don't know what exactly that is, and I do believe that everything happens for a reason, even so since I still struggle to know what to make of my life, I am frequently asking myself that question. I have gotten quite used to doing so by now. It just goes with the territory of your current situation.

I ask myself deep, philosophical questions all the time. This maybe the reason I'm a little crazy lol.
I've spent a lot of time reading religious/philosophical texts, and science books, trying to find answers to these question. All give you a different answer to whatever questions you're asking.
If you don't adhere to any religion, it's up to you to find purpose and meaning to your life. I struggled a while with this question, especially when I started to question if God really exists.
As for where is happiness derived from? It can be from external things such as material objects, friends, family, but I personally believe the best source to derive happiness is from within. I'm currently working on this now. I have a long way to go, but hopefully I'll reach inner peace again along my journey in this life.
I have to learn how to love myself, and accept who I am; instead of being critical of myself all the time.

We live to exist
We exist for the existence of others
