Hello, I am a 34 year old female from Holland.

From juni last year (2013) one day I got muscle contraction of the throat. It was very scary. I thought I would choke...I got them more often. Every 3 weeks or so...In september I was on a holiday in Mallorca en there I got a worse Attack. I was so tired after that that I hardly could walk. We saw a docter there en is said to me that I have muscle contraction. I need to do yoga, tai chi etc... (till that time i didn't know what is was).

In januari 2012 I went to live together with my boyfriend. Before I lived alone for 4 years...Also I quited my job in the summer of 2012 because I had to travel A lot from my new home. I hoped to find a job faster but I didn't. Many changes. In november 2013, more than a year later, I found a new job.
I was so happy. Now all my problems are over. I thought...I worked three days than I collapse. In the three days I noticed that my legs where so tired, everything was too much. The incentives I couldn't handle. It was a nightmare. I couldn't think. My throat was getting thick..

After that three days I stopped working. It was too horrible. In the weeks after I got many weird things. choking, my tongue (also a muscle) had also a contraction, my hole body aches, I had hyperventilation, I couldn't stand on my feet in the morning. The morning are the most horrible. My breathing stopped at night. The whole day I layed In bed I couldn't do anything..

I have been to my docter, she said I have anxiety and stress. I have seen a docter in the hospitel for my throat, bloodtest, hearttest, everything is ok...

But I never experienced Anxiety. I was so glad to work. I thought is was a pity that it took so long before I got a job but it wasn't so that I thought about it all the time. I try to think positive and dit nice things...

Does anybody recognize the symptoms...?

Lots of love from Holland

A few of the symptoms you say could be anxiety related such as the hyperventilation and tightness in throat that I am aware of

But there is a thread on this forum and it's amazing how many different symptoms there are

If you have had a complete check up by your doc and you are getting the all clear and healthy, then anxiety could easily be the culprit

Stress and anxiety affects everyone with similar symptoms but also throws a few odd ones to each of us

If indeed it is anxiety, have you considered a SSRI or a benzo to see if that eliminates the symptoms ?

It is good you are looking into this now so soon after your symptoms began

Makes it much easier when you haven't trained the brain too much to start fearing

And just a side note, most people here will follow the General Discussion threads. The Welcome area isn't checked as often if you are wondering why the replies were slow coming. You can repost your thread there if you like

Hope you find your answers here. Lots of people with plenty of experience.

Welcome and greetings!!

I can tell you what my brother experienced. He's 43, one day he felt he could not breath, he drove to the hospital in his work van. They said he was having asthma

like symptoms and gave him a Spray to breath in. This helped but for the past year or so he has been choking when swallowing, and choking when he ate. He coughs

a lot too. He is prone to ocd symptoms, (anxiety, and depression), but he tries to manage with alcohol since he does not want to go on medication even though he

reports it made him feel great, he said it makes him believe the world is not as fk'd up as he believes it to be and so don't want to take it cause he feels like he's lying

to himself ( he was on Zoloft). Anyway after choking on Thanksgiving dinner he went to the doctor. The doctor said he was having esophageal spasms, and he

needed his throat stretched. I had never heard such a thing and researched it on the net, this is quite common, and even two and three times people will have this

done. He no longer has any symptoms at all. He still hides his depression and anxiety with alcohol. His life, but he's a grouch when sober.

Hope this helps? You definitely will be anxious if you're getting symptoms like this, but I think your doctor will get it under control. Anymore symptoms? Are you or

have you had anxiety, panic or depression in the past? You've been through a lot of changes in a short time, and I would guess you're anxious and depressed. This

will subside. Stick around read a lot and keep us posted please. Again thank you for coming and enjoy the help of those who know. Peace
