So we just finished shoveling the driveway from the 10 inches of snow we have. I was probably only doing it for 10 minutes and now I'm freaking out. I know they said people have heart attacks from shoveling snow and of course I'm terrified that I over did it.

I do have sinus tachycardia, but my heart rate seems normal right now. I have tightness but I've been having that with my acid reflux today too. But if course in my head these are all signs of my impending heart attack.

Any suggestions?

Hi Steph! This weather stinks! I'm in Illinois and it has been disgusting out this week! Way too cold for me. I'm ready for a beach vacation. I don't really have any suggestions but can seriously empathize with you. I have something called SVT and it causes some serious anxiety over the possibility of my heart doing weird stuff. Sinus Tach is normal with panic and anxiety and I have dealt with that for years. It can definitely make sensitive people which I think many of us with anxiety tend to be, even more on edge and paranoid. Do you always have sinus tach or is it with the anxiety / panic attacks?

I'm in Missouri, I bet we've had some similar weather...yuck! I have a friend with SVT who has anxiety also, I think it can cause anxiety easily. I'm honestly not sure about the anxiety and sinus tach relation. I was diagnosed with sinus tach about 3-4 months before anxiety, but I almost wonder if one caused the other. Not sure which came first, but feel they are related.

Have you had a stress test? They're always nice for reassurance, give your heart a good workout whilst having it monitored.

Other than that, you can always call Mr Plough :)

I did have a stress test. Did well during that, no blockage that they saw. That does help me feel reassured. Thanks.

Oh my, I didn't know that term until just recently

Steph, do you have the same worries about regular exercise, or is it just snow ploughing cos of what you heard about the heart attacks?

Please stop saying "Snow Plowing" http://www.pic4ever.com/images/onion055.gif

Can't you just wait and let the snow melt? Or hose it down with boiling water?

Well, shoveling snow is heafty exercise. Exercise increases your heart rate, exercising and panic attacks are quite similar feelings to each other really because they both cause your heart to race..that is why many people fear exercise because they feel like they are having panic attacks.

I've noticed after I do some exercise, I feel kind of "off" and anxious for a good 10 or 15 mins afterwards til I have rested enough. You just have to rest up after doing lots of physical exertion and you'll feel okay again.
