Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and hoping to find some relief or at least find some people I can relate to. Long story short, I have always struggled with anxiety for as long as i can remember and last year I was finally diagnosed with GAD and depression a few months after my dad committed suicide while my mom was on chemo treatment. It has been the most challenging and dark time of my life but I try to cope as best as i can.
As of now, I struggle with the overwhelming feelings of anxiety on a daily basis. I have good days and bad days, but I remain hopeful that things will keep improving. I take Cipralex for the anxiety and Wellbutrin for the depression symptoms. I also go to therapy on a regular basis.
So that's me in a nutshell. I'm a 26 years old male from Canada looking for people who understand what I am going through.
Nice to meet you all and thanks for reading :)

Hi Darwin, welcome here !
Sorry about your Dad.. Remaining hopeful is a good attitude to have.. You say your Mom was on chemo at the time, so is she at least doing better and okay??
I'm glad you've joined the site. There's plenty of great, understanding people here..... :)

Hi Darvin, I am sorry to hear about your dad. Sometimes people get so scared that they do not want to live. Hopefully your mom will recover and the meds will start working for you. I have the feeling you will fit right in :)

Thanks for the welcome! My mom is doing a lot better. I have been on meds for about a year, still trying to find a combination that works well.

Darvin I have older brother back in old country and he is fighting with cancer for over 10 years and surviving. We have more meds better meds and more and more people win with it. I learned here a lot about meds, made some suggestion to my psych, and what the most important I got the support here and made fantastic friends :)

Hi fisher :)
It has been a pretty snowy winter and the past few days the temperature has reached lows of -40 degrees Celsius with the wind chill! Very cold lol! It's really beautiful though, all those white snowy mountains, makes for some breathtaking landscapes!
I do still struggle with anxiety. I have good days and bad days which is better than a year ago when most days were unbearable. The meds have helped especially combined with therapy. Some days are still a struggle but I have more tools at my disposal to cope when my anxiety spikes. Gotta think positive right? :)

Darwin do not forget about the temps, they say is going to be 26 cm of snow tomorrow. It is going to be a disaster , with the snow clearing. You said about white snowy mountains, is is Calgary? Canada has the most beautiful places, it is a huge country. We have everything here. I am in this country for 22 years and still did not see a lot. :))

I'm actually from Ottawa so when I say mountains i mean the green hills covered with snow in the Gatineau park lol. It's certainly not like The rockies in BC but still, snowshoeing there is majestic!

fisher,
I felt exactly the same way about travelling before. I was terrified of taking a plane, mainly because I was afraid of having panic attacks and have no escape.
I eventually realized that my desire to travel was greater than my fear of flying and so I took the big plunge in may 2013. I travelled to Ireland, Scotland and England for three weeks. I'm not gonna lie, the first flight was terrifying and the whole adventure was a big test on my anxiety, but I ended up having the time of my life and have absolutely no regrets. I would do it again in a heartbeat! :)
