I am new to this forum and am hoping to get help for my developing anxiety. After failed attempts with medication I'd like to hear others experiences and journeys with anxiety. And Merry Christmas!
Hi and Welcome to the forum :)
Post a wee thread in the general section around what type of anxiety you suffer from, what your symptoms are and any questions you have, there is a wealth of knowledge and experience on this forum so im sure at least one of us will be able to answer you :D
I suffered for 2.5 years health anxiety, GAD, panic disorder/attacks and I feel I was getting to close the verge of agrophobia as i stopped wanting to go out and do things i would have previously enjoyed for fear of an attack or getting dizzy, thats when i took control, got the right medication that suited me (propanalol - beta blocker) started trying to rationalise every thought/pain before it sent me into a panic and, forcing myself to do things, got involved with lots of exercise again, zumba, horse riding and running and generally just tried to keep my mind active and to live my life as i done before the panic ... it was hard but it paid off, ive been generally back to my old self for the last 3 years and even tho anxiety never leaves it gets soo much easier to live with when you get control of it
Advice to you, keep trying until you find a med that suits you, i tried to beat it without meds and for me it was a loosing battle, altho i started taking just 1 propanalol a day and that gave me the edge over anxiety and i was able to get control so its really about finding what suits you, i also used herbal remedies as in general i never take medicine unless i need it (one of my fears is side effects of tablets) so i took the 1 propanalol tablet in the morning then in the afternoon if i needed it i used something call argent nit which is a homeopathic/herbal remedy used to calm nerves and at nights i would take it again before sleep and i still dont know to this day if they had more of a placebo effect than anything but if my mind was playing tricks on me i played tricks on it back lol
There are loads of other stories out there im sure lots of people on here will share with you but the main points are finding a med that suits you, learning to distract you mind, rationalise your thoughts, get plenty of sleep as many people will tell you anxiety always feels worse when you are tired and take it from there, its a looooong road but it does get better :D
