Hi everyone my name is Steve, it seems to me that there is a lot of young people on this site, i,m 53, an old gezzer.
Well this old gezzer has had this condition for 40 years. Now I,m happy to say I have figured it out, at least for myself.
Everyone is a little different, but the problem is still the same. I,v had therapy, meds, read all kinds of books but nothing really worked.
My take,on anxiety, depression and related problems is this, the shrinks and drug companies are not treating the problem , they are treating the symptoms , so people never really get better . There sure are a lot of shrinks and lots of drug companies making big money . See where I,m going with this . If you don't, let me put it like this, If you have a tooth ache from an abscess, does the doctor just keep on giving the patient pain pills for ever, no its pulled or fixed ,end of problem because the patient does know whats going on.
But with problems of the mind it,s not that obvious and they know that , but in my case it is. I have found the cure by accident while being treating for a physical ailment, the med I,m taking is common for my ailment, but is never prescribed for anxiety and related conditions, but has a side benefit that helps with anxiety. As far as I,m concerned I,m cured of this debilitating condition.
Anyway some advice for people that have smoked dope with this condition "DONT" IT IS THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO!!!!!!!
Question.... does anyone have unexplainable body aches and pain, in the morning, like you have been hit by a truck. Sleeping problems, fatigue, brain fog, but not from meds.
I noticed a lot more women suffer from anxiety than men why?

It will be interesting to see what kind of response I get from the community

I,m here waiting

Hi Steve. I just signed on to this site as well and since you are waiting, I will talk with you. I am 48 so not a young spring chicken. I started having anxiety more recently in my life. I think major in the past 6 months. I have had bouts with it over the last couple of years, but now I would say major full blown anxiety. Mine is mostly paranoid with medical conditions and asthma and my heart...lol. It gets more ridiculous by the day. And I think its getting worse where I don't even want to go to work anymore. Yes, I do feel every ache and pain and blow it up bigger than is. I think women are more emotional and have more on their plate at times so thats why I think they are affected more. My husband tells me constantly to get out of my head and that I'm my worse enemy, but if it were that easy I would be jumping out of it. :)

I'm a bit of geezer to at 50 but think since lots of docs recommend psychotherapy and they are doing the right thing. Problem is many patients are afraid to dig deep into their past, their psyche, have no money/time, are too anxious to make needed changes anyway, etc, and so docs medicate to relieve distress.
I went for a few years before taking steps to address my internal conflict as my pdoc advised and have been much better since. He tried to make me address the underlying issue but I was not ready. Once I did I began to get better but sure needed meds to help cope for that time.
Many can cope with anxiety w/o meds, other needed them and other just need them for a short time. Each of us is just unique. Alankay

Hi Steve, Welcome to the site! At 49 I have both feet firmly planted in Middle Age too! Although I have had depression and anxiety issues on and off for much of my life, they have been worse over the past 8 years or so than ever before.

Good to hear you have found something that helps you. What medication is it?

I suffer from Fybromyalgia , the med for that helped my anxiety too.
The med is TRAMADOL, it,s only prescribed for pain, not anxiety, but it works on both.
Dosnt leave you all messed up in the head like the ant-depressants, but one word of caution if your on anti-depressants, cant take Tramadol, but the Tramadol is a mood inhancer so you don,t need an anti-depressant. I also take .5 mg Lorazapam as needed.

That's really interesting, Steve. I've heard of Tramadol as a pain med, but had no idea it helps with anxiety too. Cool that you discovered this by accident!! Really glad it's helping you so much.

I have never met a psychiatrist who does therapy. All of them give you a 15 minute appointment and ask how you are and then decide whether to change medications or dosages. And if you want to see a psychologist, they cost lots of money and most insurance plans won't cover it.

At my clinic I asked for therapy once. They put me in with a 20 something woman who had no advanced degrees. I quickly decided it was no help and stopped going.

well, welcome to the site Steve, I am old too and I am dealing with problems over 30 years. Tramadol is a med which can not be used with anything. It is effective though. I have a psych who does therapy, my appointment is one hour :)) it is the first time in my long life (I am older than you Steve) that I met doctor like that on this continent:))

Glad you found a doctor that takes the time with you, a rare find indeed!
You know it is weird talking about being old, but we are really not ,but this condition makes one feel that way don't it. It tends to wear a body down at times. People are always asking me why I look so tired all the time and drawn, its because this condition never gives you a break, at least not for me anyway. And not being very happy all the time doesn't help either.
But as of late thing have changed, i know what i'm dealing with now and that's half the battle, i was fight something I could not see. Dealing with things, is much better now.
One last thing, I believe that this Fibro. condition is somehow linked with the anxiety and related mental conditions . Your mind is your body and your body is your mind.
I wish you well :)

Look it up on the internet, lots of info.
Fibromyalgia ( chronic pain syndrome) it,s not that you have any more pain than anyone else, just that people with it tend to perceive pain more than others, just more sensitive to it I guess. People that have it, live in what is called a brain fog, makes you feel stupid, and unable to concentrate on simple every day tasks. Like your thoughts are out of focus or not there at all. Learning new things was difficult for me,but not so much any more, thanks to the med i'm on now .Hope this helps:)
