Hello,

I am 33 year old and dealing with anxiety since my early twenties. I am trying to figure out better ways to deal with this as it hinders my life quite a bit.

I believe my biggest issue is most likely health anxiety.

Hi,
I'm new here too and have recently been diagnosed with anxiety . I believe my biggest issue to be health anxiety too, as well as a fear of dying. I also am trying to figure out ways to deal with this.

When did your anxiety and panic attacks start? Mine started almost 2 months ago, but I've always had a tendency to have anxiety problems since I was a teenager. Back then I found it best to talk to someone I trusted about it or to focus on basic activities. Now that I am older and the symptoms have increased, I am having a harder time coping. The doctors have prescribed me everything from ativan to celexpro(?) and I am afraid to take them. Have you seen a doctor for your anxiety? has it helped at all?

Mine started a year ago because I took a antidepressant for baby blues, but little did I know since I have bipolar and manic depression im not suppose to have an antidepressant. So needless to say now im trying to correct doctors mistakes by coping with my anxiety caused by all the different meds they gave me....

hoodrichmama welcome to the forum. Were you diagnosed with bipolar? Are u under the care of psychiatrist? I was married to bipolar guy for almost twenty years, my best friend is bipolar and he went through awful times in his life, but he is on meds and he knows everything about this disease, and he is living almost normal life. Better than mine that for sure. His bipolar gives him less trouble than my GAD does for me. You should be on meds lady:))

oh that sounds so rough, when were you diagnosed with bipolar? Bipolar and manic depression are both very difficult things, then to have anxiety in the mix is very difficult. It's hard to try to fix doctors mistakes. What are you doing to try to cope with your anxiety?

Im not currently on any meds for the sheer fact that I cant handle all the side effects along with raising a toddler lol, everything ive tried seems to make my anxiety so much worse.., I was diagnosed with all that garbage about 8 years ago, and im still trying to figure out how to cope... everyday is rough but so far im still here.

Also, im currently trying to seek out a new doctor cuz so far all the doctors ive seen act like they could care less and so they take a guess as to whats wrong then throw a bunch of pills at me and when I react to them they give me more, so I just cant go through that anymore...

I know exactly how you feel, I have some other health issues going on and only one doctor has taken the time to address those issues, the rest of them just throw anxiety meds at me. The best advice I was given was that once you find a doctor that you trust and feel comfortable stick with them and don't let a bunch of other doctors get involved because then you end up with meds you dont need and sometimes diagnosis' that don't fit you. I am finding that talking about what is going on is helping me, it's nice to have people that can relate.

I swear doctors just dont care anymore, my OB just diagnosed me with pco (poly cistic ovarian disease) or however you spell that, but anyway she mainly just guessed, my test showed up negative for it and she said it could be wrong. So now she wants me on BC for it but it causes nervousness, which does not mix with my anxiety. ..

You can on rare occassions find a doctor that actually cares and takes time to get to know you but most of the time doctors don't really give a damn especially if you don't have good insurance. My doctor told me the same thing about something else, I had one doctor tell me that I had a problem with my thyroid, in fact I had 3 dr's that assumed this and then my doctor told me no there was nothing wrong with it even though the tests I took pointed to there being something wrong with it.
BC sucks, I have never been able to take it. Are there any other options besides BC? Why would she tell you had something that she's not even sure if you have it? You shouldn't scare people like that.

I know, right? I went in for missed periods and false pregnancy tests so she assumed I had pco, when really I just think I need hormone treatments.

Sounds like you def. need a new doc, it's ok to assume something but wait for the test before you make a full on diagnosis. problems with hormones can cause anxiety problems too. they need to run tests...and point you in the right direction.

good luck, that was one of the harder things I had to do, every place I called no one was accepting new patients but then I got lucky. I too also have to find a gyn. this week, haven't been in 3 years probably time to get that checked out. Just remember don't settle for just anyone find someone that you feel comfortable with. Try to get recommendations from people you know.

You will find psychiatrists with different views on this. I, too, am Bi-Polar and my psych doc has prescribed me SSRI's for a number of years now. It's probably down to the individual and their needs, but some bi-polar people can handle SSRI's while others can't. There is no clear-cut rule, though, that Bi-polars should "never" have SSRI's.
