Well my anxiety messed up my life...I chose the wrong profession which includes being very social and a peoples person.
I have to be hands on with people and communicate but my anxiety paralyzes me and I cannot do my job to the best of my ability, I've even got fired because of it. My cheeks get red, I get dizzy, the room spins and I can't think.
I have the skills, but my anxiety messes it all up....its so frustrating.

I don't take medication. How do i go about doing that?
I need advice, this is my first time talking about it...I'm lost.

Hi meagan, Welcome to the site. I'm really sorry you're struggling like this. Well done for reaching out. This is a good place to find support and I really hope it helps you to spend some time here.

Regarding how you go about getting psychiatric medication, the first thing to do would be to talk to your doctor. You could just tell him everything you've written here and ask him if he could refer you to a psychiatrist or if he could prescribe you an anti-depressant himself. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can also be very helpful for anxiety disorders so you could ask your doctor if he could refer you for some CBT as well.

You'll find a lot of helpful information here at the site too, so have a read through some of the posts, and be sure to let us know how everything is going. Wishing you the very best!

Sound like a beta blocker like propranolol might be a good bet to try. I use it for social anxiety , tremor , etc so ask your doc about it. If you have a normal heart and no asthma I would ask about a trial of 20 -40 mg an hour before you'd need it. Alankay

And these meds have to be prescribed by a doctor?

Ohhh I feel for you. I was a cosmetologist and a pretty good one until every single.thing made me panic. I blew through like ten jobs frantically trying to keep it together and failing. I could hold it together for a month or so then isld start having panic attacks. Numbness. Just terror of my profession. Id get anxious and never go back. You didn't ruin your life you just have to readjust your path a little bit :) thats what I'm doing! I'm trying to find a profession that suits my strange needs haha. There's always medication so maybe if you try a benzo it will help you relax. Just talk to a doctor. But don't stress about it. Not everybody drives the same straight road!

A beta blocker is a form of medication that blocks certain signals to the brain when there is trouble or pain in the body. It is usually used for issues with the heart and kidneys but are also used to help calm anxiety which produces beta signals. Therefore a beta blocker would block those trouble signals. I hope that makes sense. :).

And this helps works well for you?
Im going to the Dr after a year of not being on anything trying to fix it on my own, and Effexor and Celexa haven't worked for me so i want to try something else.. Do Beta blockers have many side effects? Thanks for replying :)

Well actually for me I found that they were not helpful, but they do help many people. I have tried everything under the sun ( I have severe social phobia/anxiety disorder, and litterally cannot function when not medicated ) so the only thing that helped me-and REALLY helped me like night and day is a benzo called klonopin. It's been an amazing gift for me and I'm on a very little dose. So if Effexor and celexa haven't been helpful and your anxiety is pretty severe it's my opinion that a benzodiazepine would be the most helpful to you.

Oh yeah, about the side effects of beta blockers I'm not quite sure but I do remember that weight gain is one of the main ones. Other then that I think light headedness, and dehydration but I'm not sure. ;)
