Hi all,...I am new to this anxiety forum, but certainly not new to anxiety. I've had 2 bad boughts of anxiety that were both "cured" with counselling and medication....however I recently moved about an hour out of the city (which I had lived in for 12 years) to the suburbs (my wife and I bought our first house). This is supposed to be the happiest time of my life...but it has brought on nonstop anxiety. I would love to hear if anyone else has had any experience with anxiety caused by a moving into a new house or moving in general?

Well, I wouldn't call it full blown anxiety for me, but when my husband and I moved into our current apartment, we had left a comfortable house in the country--a place with nothing but quiet woods around--to the noise and bustle of a large city

For about two months in the new apartment (this was 2 years or so ago) everytime I heard a noise I freaked out. I wasn't sleeping because I was certain someone was going to break into the house. The worst time was when my husband was late coming home from work one day and some teenagers (gosh saying that makes me feel so old! I'm only 25!! ) starting goofing around outside of our door, and slammed into the wall. Instant (minor) panic attack.

I'm used to the noise now, but I had issues when my husband began working thirds. I think your situation is all about comfort for you. Were you living in an apartment before? Now you are in a house (of your very own--congratulations!!) and it is much larger, and much more isolated than an apartment would be. There are new sights, new sounds and all though you're a grown up--change can be hard to get used to, even when you tell yourself you're being silly and this should be a happy time.

Heh, that's just my insight... Is there something inparticular you are worried about? Break ins--finances-- anything associated with the new place?

Great insight Velrose,

Yes...I was living in a tiny apartment in the city and now find myself out in the country in a big house commuting 1 hour to work on a train. Every routine in my life has changed...not to mention my wife has had to work weekends the past few months leaving me alone in a big unfamiliar house. The weird part of this whole move is how excited I was to move and how great it was those first 2 months as we settled in. Then suddenly out of the blue I've had constant anxiety and some noticeable depression as well! Maybe those first few months were like a honeymoon period and now all the stresses and fears have caught up to me.

I guess if I had to narrow it down to one thing in particular that I am worried about is that my friends from the city feel so far away from me, even though I commute into the city 5 days a week...or is it that I feel isolated in the house with my wife working weekends?...or is it some kind of "losing control" thing? Thats the thing I hate most about anxiety....your mind is constantly trying to figure out what caused this mess and it never stops thinking!
