Hi Just wanted to introduce myself hopefully I can find some support, help others, or at least see I'm not alone in what I'm going through. I've dealt with anxiety my whole life (mostly manifested through IBS) but it hasn't been until relatively recently that it has become such a huge obstacle. Dad diagnosed with terminal cancer, new baby new job everything just kind of hit at once and I felt I was losing control. Resisting meds had basically been a hobby of mine until about four months ago I gave in and saw a psychiatrist - mostly bc a doc wanted to put me on bp meds but I knew the real reason (also continued weight loss). Started on Klonipin .25mg BID and went through about four different antidepressants all with worse disabling side effects than the next. It was a disaster. I know that dose of klonopin may seem "small" to some but it worked wonders for me and helped me put my life back together. Problem is I'm totally hooked and already four months later feel the need to increase dosage which I refuse to do - I know about the downward benzo spiral. I tried to take myself off a few times all have been horrible insomnia nausea the whole deal. I finally convinced my doc to help me to taper down try to reset my system med free - he was resistant to this if you can believe it.

Anyway that's my story and where I'm at right now. Very scared of the benzo withdrawal also because it has been such a huge help to me! But I understand the problems with long term use.

Was just wondering if others have been through this type of thing. I believe deep down that although meds work for some, anxiety for me just may be something I need to manage on my own. I hope this taper goes well I'm scared about it.

Sorry to ramble - but maybe there's some positive stories out there that can help me get through this?

Hi JMiles, Welcome! This site is a great resource and I hope you like it here. I don't personally have experience tapering off benzo's, but there are certainly people here who are knowledgeable on that subject. Wishing you the best!
