hello,my name is dave and i have extreme anxiety.it started when i was 14 and my doctor put me on several different anti-depressants.all they ever did was make me feel worse.so i changed doctors and my new doc said its not depression its anxiety.so he put me on xanax .5 3 times a day.been great ever since except for a few major attacks in the past few years.now recently i have been getting attacks everyday (some severe,,some mild).so i called my doctor to get me in and the receptionist told me he retired!!!! i was spinning, couldn't breathe, you guys know.so after i went to the emergency room, got 4 ekg's before they shot me up with something and sent me home to follow up with my doc.so yesturday i found a new doc,he got all my records faxed over to get him familiar with my ongoing situation.he told me all about how xanax is addictive and it is really hard to stop takeing it.so he gave me KLOTOPIN.1mg twice a day.i woke up this morning took the klotopin and i really feel out of it.i couldn't go to work.i got very blurred vision and feel tired.i looked up the side affects and i'm feeling most of them.so my question is will these side affects go away with time?and has anyone else ever went from xanax to klotopin? i'm very happy to have found this forum.i really need someone to talk to about anxiety.hopefully someone on here can give me some insight.

Welcome, I'm new too :)

That's stressful about your doc, I'm sorry. I've only ever had experience with lexapro so I can't help you there but I have heard that blurred vision or eye probs can be sign of a dosage that is too high. I had a similiar thing when I first started with lexapro though, I'm trying to figure out if my eyes are OK now - whether they feel strained because of the meds or if it's being online so much.

I want to up my own meds but can't deal with going into see my doc right now (agoraphobic) so I will either ring him or get someone to ring him for me. If you want to know something about your meds or anxiety don't feel bad about getting others to do it on your behalf, I used to.

I've suffered with anxiety my entire life so I'm here to talk if you need someone.

Hey I'm new too....
newbies yay. haha

I myself have been put mainly on antidepressants (lexapro and cymbalta) which is supposed to treat anxiety as well.
But I am currently trying to find a doctor who specializes in this area to help me find a better med for me.
I stopped taking cymbalta because I didn't like it... it makes me so tired and numb... and depressed.
but I have a friend who used to take xanax and I have taken it sometimes when I have my bad attacks.. but like you said it's addictive so I shouldn't be doing that.
anyways where I was going with this is she started taking kolonapin in the past year and she had some problems with it I remember when she started taking it.... but she's still taking it and I haven't heard anything negative about her meds from her in awhile but reading this makes me curious to ask her.
It might be like was posted that you started on too high a dosage.
but kolonopin (Im sorry I don't know how to spell it) is also addictive.
It's so hard to deal with medications and doctors for that matter.

What the doctors have told me about xanax is that it is a great med for anxiety.BUT,,,it will eventually stop working when you body builds up a tolerance for it.So they just raise the dosage and raise the dosage until you get to the point that your takeing 2mg 3 times a day.after that you can not go any higher in dose.Thats what my doctor was stressing to me about xanax. Its not good for long term. Then i read up on klonopin and it's pretty much the same as xanax.I think i need to find a different doctor!!!

Yeah, klonopin works great for me too. I went from xanax, which to me felt like mairjuana, to klonopin, which makes me feel like myself, rounds out all the edges. I agree that you are probably experiencing serious side effects and should speak to your doctor about this.

What my psych has made it sound like is that xanax is a crisis buster while klonopin is a more long-term benzodiazapene until you are stable with an antidepressant. Most doctors wont want to keep you on any benzodiazapene for a long period of time; they are just time-savers until the antidepressant kicks in.

I am a personal fan of klonopin, but I am only on .5mg twice daily, so maybe I haven't experienced the whole thing.

Good luck man.
