so for a few days now I've been hyper aware of my breath and the fact that at times it feels as though my lungs aren't filling all the way. now, every anxiety relaxation method I listen to tells me to be aware of my breath when all I really want to do is forget about my breath. any tips out there on how to just breathe without thinking about it?

I do the same thing. Whenever I notice something "wrong" with me, I worry about it which seems to make it worse. Those thoughts just run through my head all day, and whenever I am working, by myself, or just simply have some time to relax, my thoughts are always directed to whatever I think is "wrong". What I have thought to help is to take up a hobby to keep your mind off things. For me, I enjoy art, and I am a bit of a perfectionist, so when I am doing a project, I am always making sure things are straight, colors are right, etc. and it seems to take my mind off things temporarily. I haven't found a permanent solution to this, so I am looking forward to seeing what else everyone else suggests.

I definitely feel better when my mind is on something else :) art is also something I enjoy...I keep meaning to get out my supplies but something always comes up. I guess I need to prioritize myself some more! Thanks for your response!

Yeah, it's quite tough finding anxiety relaxation methods that don't involve the breath. They seem to ALL do.

Do some meditation, but use and focus on a mantra, rather than your breath. You can google mantras, or pretty much pick anything.

In your session, use a let it be, focus on the mantra gently attitude.

You should be able to tackle 2 birds with the one stone.
