Hi,

Not sure if I'm prematurely posting, as I haven't been officially diagnosed with anxiety, but believe I'm about to be. I've been floating around on these forums for a couple of days and thought I'd introduce myself.

I've been dealing with symptoms since mid-July. It started during a time where I was VERY stressed out with work. Sympoms started with tingling in face, then progressed to weird feeling in scalp, neck and shoulder pain, as well as numb-like feeling in various parts of my body (even though they weren't really numb). Oh, and very random and sudden, 'pins and needles' feelings all over, for no reason, they just happen.

My PCP wanted me to see a neurologist, which I did last week, and he really feels it's anxiety, but is ordering an MRI just to be sure-waiting to have that done.

I totally understand what he's saying and was actually kind of relieved to hear it, but every once in a while find it hard to believe, as I've seen others post too, that all of these weird things can be caused by anxiety. Although, the mind IS a powerful thing. I just wonder sometimes because I can totally be having a good time, not feeling anxious or anything and the tingling will happen in my face, or the weird "scrunchy" feeling in my scalp occurs. The neurologist did say he sees this a lot and when the anxiety is treated, the sensory symptoms resolve. I guess time will tell.

About 4 or 5 years ago, I did develop a weird little claustrophic fear out of no where-lets just say I have to sit on the end of a row at a concert, have to sit near the door if in a room where the door is closed, and cannot sit in the back seat of a 2-door car. Must have something to do with feeling the need to be able to escape. :) Not sure if maybe this was the beginning of it all..

Well, any suggestions, tips, comments are greatly appreciated!

Hi anxious2bme. Welcome to the site! The random physical symptoms you describe can definitely be typical of anxiety. But it's good your doctor is being so thorough and you're having an MRI to check everything out. I have the exact same claustrophobic issues you do, and a few more besides! (can't do elevators or subway either!).

Anyhow, this is a great website and I hope you find it really helpful here!

It is good to get any medical problem ruled out before you settle on your problems being anxiety and depression.

Once it is ruled out then you can concentrate on it being anxiety symptoms. You will realise from the forum that the symptoms can be very individual and random. I have never had tingling in the head but can imagine it might be because your breathing goes when you are anxious. So when it happens again just try to slow down your breathing and breath from your stomach. Concentrating on your breathing is a form of meditation and will help and the deeper breathing will stop the hyperventilating feeling, which can cause a tingly feeling.

Hope this helps.
