Hi everyone. I take fluoxetine and enjoy wine occasionally. I know they say not to, but is there anyone else out there that takes medication and drinks alcohol occasionally?

Yes. I have done that. One thing I found though was that taking an anti-depressant really killed my desire to drink alcohol. And when I did have a glass of wine, it just didn't do anything for me. So I don't drink at all now. But I certainly have had a glass of wine while taking an anti-depressant and I had no ill effects. In fact, I even asked my psychiatrist about this. He said the occasional glass of wine would not harm me (I was taking Zoloft at the time). He said what I shouldn't ever drink is grapefruit juice because this can interact badly with an SSRI.

At any rate, I would ask your doctor about this and see what he says. I know the conventional wisdom is not to drink any alcohol while on meds, and it definitely isn't a good idea to drink very much. But I certainly know plenty of people who do have the occasional glass of wine while on meds.

With 20 mg per day I have no issue with beers and it but one always needs to pay attention as you might get sleepy with the two but I can't say I do. Alankay
