Hi!

About a month ago, I started experiencing this feeling of muscle tension and the feeling like someone is sitting on my back and it's hard to breathe. It's not asthma and I can take a full breath, it just feels like my neck and in between my shoulder blades are stiff and 50lbs have been placed on my back.

Is this part of anxiety?

Sounds like it could easily be anxiety.
Perhaps you should get a check up with your doctor to check that you haven't damaged any muscles in your back which could be causing you some pain, but if everything Ok it probably is another side effect of anxiety.

The back tension isn't pain, just tense muscles, limited movement to left or right and this comes and goes. Some days I have nothing and then the next I have it. I can go a couple of days with nothing and then it comes out of nowhere and it scares me. I just took a Valium and I want to know if other people experience this.

Muscle tension can be part of depression and anxiety, but also can be side effects of any meds you are taking. I am taking a new one at the moment and I am getting stiff muscles and joints. In fact, have got up really early now because back aching so much in bed.
It sounds like anxiety and depression causing your muscles being tense, but still worth checking out with doctor first so you know for definite.
