My psychiatrist has prescribed this instead of my usual antidepressant.
I'm already anxious as it says there could be increased thoughts of suicide when first taken, and as I have severe suicidal rumination, I wonder if this could tip the balance ?
She said its quite a common side effect. I think that was supposed to make me feel more at ease.......... :s

I'm on day four of it now. Deffo has a paradoxical effect to begin with, but it's a medication with a very good track record. Starting any med for the first time will inevitably have some rebound effect.
Hope this helps, and ask away if u need.

Thanks, could I ask what dose you are on?
I suppose I need to accept that she knows what she is doing and if she thought that there was any chance of an adverse reaction then she wouldn't have prescribed it

Of course u can! I'm on the 5mg for a week, then up to 10mg. The side fx profile is a lot better than other ssri, but u might get mild effects.
Escitalopeam is an isomer of citalopram meaning its meant to be better with regards to side fx and the way it interacts with serotonin. It's very good for those sensitive to meds, but as I said, still carries minor effects.
I doubt very much u will get an adverse effect, but everyone is different. This is a good medication thought for anxiety :)

I'm on 10mg for a week and then 20mg thereafter. I don't normally suffer side effects from medication so I shall try to remain positive

I have every confidence that this medication will not cause unnecessary harm. As I said, there's so many clinical trials showing how effective it is both long term and short term when compared to placebo and other meds.
It's all about remaining positive with anxiety; very hard I know, but give it 3-4 weeks and u should feel the benefits :)

Your very welcome :) re-assurance is more powerful than medication itself!

Day 2 of the Escitalopram and I've had a constant headache since about 6pm last night. Did you suffer from headaches ? :)

Everyone gets different side fx. Iv had upset tummy, slight dizziness, slightly drugged up, some head aches and increased anxiety. They r all quite manageable though, and I haven't had a panic attack yet.
U will notice it build up, but don't worry. It's one of the better AD's for anxiety, GAD. I promise u that. Don't worry
