Hi. I have been dealing with anxiety for most of my life. And recently came to the belated conclusions that for the past year or so I have been dealing with depression as well. It has completely taken over my life, ruined my relationship, disabled me at work, and in school. I am wondering about medication. Is there one that helps with both? Is it ok to take one for anxiety AND one for depression? How well does it help? Anything you can tell me will help. I can't take being a puppet controlled by my anxiety and depression any more.

Sertraline. Escitalopram and agomelatine all have good tracks records for both. In the uk, they are indicated as first line treatment combined with Cbt. Hope this helps n ask as many qs as u need to :)

I'm just now trying to do something about it all. I have been in denial. Thought if I ignored it all it would go away. Just trying to figure out where to go from here..

Denying anxiety will create an inner conflict and reinforce the idea of anxiety and how it works. Ultimately, our childhood has a big influence over how we behave and perceive our environment as an adult.

Medications isn't necessarily the answer, but combining it with therapy u will find the physical symptoms and irrational thoughts reducing; as a general rule, but everyone is different. Long standing anxiety requires medication and therapy IMO. Maybe give an Ad a go or something like busiprone or propranolol. But I advised an anti depressant as the evidence base for it is very good and reassuring :)

I just don't know anything. I don't know technics or how to deal with it all. Especially the combination of anxiety and depression. I want to fix my anxiety but my depression kills my motivation. It's a vicious cycle that I'm not sure I can get out of it alone

Anxiety and depression often co-occur, not always, but in most cases they do.

There are so many ways of dealing with your scenario, and although I'm not qualified to say, I believe it starts with going to your doctors to get an SSRI (the ones I listed) and starting CBT.

We need to look at the here and now, and not dwell on the impact anxiety has had so far. It's all about our thought process, and the way in which we automatically come to negative conclusions.
You need to remember that your are a kind soul who is expensing a disorder, which is very hard to deal with, but does not make u any different to anyone else. I don't know you, but I want to say your are a kind hearted soul who deserves a good life; u need to keep saying this!

Does that make sense?

Yes for the most part. Idk what SSRI or CBT are.. Or what doctor I would go to with limited insurance

Ssri - selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor . Most new AD work in this way by stopping the reuptake of serotonin so that means there is more of the 'feel good chemical' in the brain. It prevents the absorption in basic terms.

Cbt - cognitive behavioural therapy. Looks at our thought process and the way in which it interacts with our environment. It looks at how thoughts make us feel, and then how we behave

Ok that makes a lot more sense!
