I was recently switched to 10mgs of Paxil once daily from Prozac 40mgs once daily. I was just wondering if anyone truly found this med helpful. I was also get Ativan as needed but I am hoping to not need it.

Works for many just if you ever want to stop it, taper off it instead of stopping cold. I bet the doc will want to go a higher dose in the future. Alankay

Hi computerguy :)
I have been anxious forever- severely. The first med I took to fight anxiety- 10 years ago was pax! It worked SO well for me!! Just remember it could take like 4-6 weeks to really get into your system and have u feel any kind of relief.. It's a life saver!
I probably wd have stayed on Paxil but I got pregnant and my dr felt switching to Zoloft wd be more safe.. That was all 10 yrs ago. I had two healthy pregnancies during that time as well.
Good luck to u and congratulations on taking the steps to feeling so much better! :-))

I can't remember how the dosage goes for Paxil.. But I guess it depends on how many mgs your dr is saying you will be getting to..
For me in my case.. (I was on Zoloft for almost 10 years.. But then went off of it about 6 mos-1 yr ago.. N symptoms slowly returned).. I began on 25 mgs of Zoloft.. Then the next week I was at 50.. Then 75.. Then 100.. Then 150mgs.. My dr had told me we were slowly working toward 150 mgs.. And 4 weeks into my treatment, I was at 75 mgs and just beginning to feel relief.. And that has continued ever since for me- starting fm 9 weeks ago..
Paxil worked amazingly for me.. But maybe it doesn't wk for everyone? Maybe discuss w your dr where she expects you to top off at? And what u might be able to expect by then.. Etc..
It is all kind of gradual.. And out recovery is quickened if we ALSO take great care if ourselves- no overindulgence In alcohol.. No smoking anything.. Sleep earlier.. Get exercise ..and also work hard to replace bad thoughts w good ones.. And push away obsessions and not allow ourselves to be consumed by them.. Soon enough our brains. Become retrained.. N the meds make it possible for us to do all of those things..
But many times we have to try different meds before we find the right fit!
Some drugs I have heard great things about are; Zoloft, Paxil and lexapro.. I myself have had great experiences w Zoloft and paxil..
I hope u find what wks for u :)
