Hi everyone,

I'm 22 and I've been dealing with moderate anxiety for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I can remember being babysat and thinking something terrible happened to my parents and they were never coming home, but everyone said that was normal 3 year old behavior so as I got older I didn't think much of it. The anxiety continued though and now there is a moment of the day where I'm not worrying about something. I constantly have a tight feeling in my chest thinking something is going to go wrong whether it's with school or work. Most of my anxiety focuses around the people I care about or being alone. If I text or call a loved one (boyfriend, friend, family) and they don't get back within a couple of hours I immediately think they were in a car accident, or I did something to make them mad at me. The anxiety grows until I hear back from them and it nearly makes it impossible to concentrate on what I'm doing because the worrying is so heavy on my mind. I also can't stay home on my own at night for fear that there will be a break in, or whoever I live with (at the moment my family) won't come home. This also applies to situations in which I go out with friends and we have to split up for something I get anxiety that we won't be able to find each other and meet up again later. I have had panic attacks over stupid situations where people don't come home when they say they will and I think something happened.

Sorry for the novel! But, I'm looking for a natural remedy to deal with situations such as these. It's stopping me from making new relationships and effecting the ones I have because they think I'm being irrational and selfish and don't understand it's something I can't control.

Dear Kelly

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.
I can really relate to your worrying about people calling you back and what might have happened to them -can you see any pattern in that? When do you feel like that? Because I can't, and I've really tried to see if I can find out when that feeling is at its strongest..
Anyway; I usually lie flat on my back for 5 minutes, when I feel like that. And then I count my breaths. breathing really deeply. When I get up, I'm still anxious, but my body is working for me and not against me.

I hope it can help you too.

all the best :)

No, there seems to be no pattern to it. Sometimes I'm okay and other times I panic that something happened.
