I take 5mg of Lexapro currently. At first I had horrible side effects like headaches, upset stomach, and just weird feelings. But now it's been a month, and things are so much better.
I have severe health anxiety and was afraid to even walk around Walmart without feeling like I was having a heart attack. I can't even tell you how many times I went to the ER.
But finally I feel like I'm getting parts of my life back. I haven't had a panic attack in probably 2 weeks. I still have my scared moments, but I'm so much better. I was so against medicine at first, but am happy with the choice now. :)
Hey Steph,
Did you ever feel tingling or burning like sensations?
How long did it take for your side effects to go away?
Are you still on 5mg?

I started 10mg just over two weeks ago now. I had some moderate side effects, mostly headaches. But I am already feeling a lot better. Sometimes I get upset stomach too but it's very few and far between. I think I did read that the side effects take about two weeks to clear up. I haven't noticed any of the tingling or burning as a side effect, but I do get tingling and burning sensations when I have anxiety.

I did feel like my head was constantly burning. But applying something cold made it feel better right away. I don't remember any tingling though. Id say my side effects lasted about 2 weeks b

Glad you're feeling better also! The rest of your side effects should start going away soon. I still get the occasional headaches, but nothing too crazy.
I'm still on 5mg, but talked to my doctor about possibly increasing to 10mg. We're going to stay on 5 as long as its working for me though. Hoping if I have to increase that I don't get side effects all over again!

Does anyone know if you can drink on Lexapro? I'm going to call the doctor, but thought if see if any of you knew already or have had any experiences?

All the information that came with my Lexapro script says you shouldn't drink. I got the impression that it would mostly cause drowsiness and maybe dizziness though. But I admit I do drink on mine (and I know I am not the only one) and I haven't had problems with it. I am a pretty moderate drinker. But I partied at a concert this weekend and drank a LOT and I was completely ok with it. In fact, with the group I was out with, I am the only one on medication and the only one who woke up without a hangover.

I spent a few seconds looking into it. I found out that you shouldn't drink with SSRIs.
Hey Steph,
Did you have increased anxiety with your meds?
Did you take a benzo to help you cope with the symptoms?

I had extreme anxiety when I started it. Never had anxiety in my life before, then it hit me out of no where. So I'm not sure that the meds increased it, but it was still pretty noticeable for the first week or so.
I didn't like the benzo meds, I'm pretty sensitive to meds in general, so I didn't use anything to cope with it. I just tried to suffer through it for a few days and noticed slow but steady improvements.

Lexapro has done wonders for me. I was at 15 mg and am weaning myself back down to 10 very slowly.

I'm so happy that you're doing better with your anxiety! I'm still trying to find a medicine that works for me. I tried Lexapro about a week ago, but within 3 hours of taking 10mg I had to call EMS because my heart was racing. I've since been prescribed Zoloft, but I'm afraid to try it because I don't want what I went through to happen again. Anxiety is horrible to have, but I'm looking forward to the day I can get my life back again! Thank you for sharing your story!
