depakote?

I just got back from my psychiatrist. He prescribed Depakote. Is this good for anxiety? My anxiety is at an all time high.

It is an anti-seizure medication, used off label as a mood stabilizer for manic bi-polar episodes and migraine prevention.

I can say that I am on topamax for my chronic migraines, which is another anti-seizure med in the same class as Depakote and i am having major anxiety issues. I have been on it for 3 years. Since I was on the topamax already when my anxiety became an issue again, I can't really give a clear answer other than to say that if the topamax is helping my anxiety, then it isn't very effective. Either that, or it's so effective that I would be even more of a wreck without it? I guess there is only one way for you to find out.

Yes it should help after a day or two. I would try it for sure as bad side effects don't usually happen. Kind of like a slow acting benzo. Alankay

Yes. It should help with anxiety but the dose may be need to be tweaked but maybe not. Alankay
