I've had anxiety and been on meds since 1997, I'm now 24. Currently taking 40mg of Celexa daily & .5mg Ativan morning and .5mg at night. Told my doc the Ativan needed to be upped & she immediately said I was addicted. Started gabapentin 100mg 3x daily & vistaril 3x daily with my celexa... Anyone else on these? The gabapentin makes me feel like jello lol... I'd rather be on the ativan, it worked fabulous for abt a year & now the .5mg isn't strong enough...so gabapentin with vistiril?

I started gabapentin today my doctors goal is up to 900 mg in a month. I feel ok. Maybe a bit tired, I am on clonazepam too

Yeah both can be tried for anxiety but at .5 mg of ativan a day I don't get the "addicted" part. Now if you continue to need to increasing the dose that's one thing but another option would be to go to a longer acting benzo like klonopin for GAD type anxiety but it can used for panic as well once a day.
You could also ask about 1 mg for the hardest part of the day and .5 for the other as that's really not a giant dose of ativan. Some patients will bump the dose and stay there other will always seem to increase as it effects may lessen. This is not universal though. Some patients stabilize OK after an increase OK and stay there.
My advise would be to try the meds he's rx'ed and go from there.
Have you had any psychotherapy to find and address the source of your anxiety?
Pregabalin(lyrica) is also an option to benzos.
Some docs are trained to automatically assume "dependence" when a patient asks for a dose increase, others will OK the bump and watch to see if you stabilize. So if he won't go for that if the new meds fail, think about changing docs. At that dose patient preference should count(again at that fairly low dose). No so at a much higher dose though IMHO.
So no ssri now as well? Alankay

I am just starting on gabapentin. I trust my psychiatrist very much. She is probably the best I had ever met. I can not tolerate any of the SSRI meds. clonazepam seems to take an edge of my anxiety. I am living in Canada and I have no medical insurance so the therapy is out of question. Lorazepam, Ativan I mean does not help me much. Maybe it is just the dose too small. My family doctor was staffing me with it for years. I would say I developed resistance to it. I am on clonazepam for over a month and I did not have a panic attack which is awesome. I am dealing with anxiety for over 40 years :(
I am hoping I do not hack this topic:)
Cherrykiss it seems that u have a lot of meds at the same time. Celexa should take care of your anxiety. Is Celexa working on u?

I am sorry for the grammar mistake, English is my second language:)
