Subtance abuse and anxiety

I have a question, has anyone been prisoner of a substance abuse problem due to there anxiety. I wonder if I am the only one sometimes. In high school I messed my back in an accent and have been Vicodin since. I just find when I take my pain meds I just don't feel as anxious & tense.
