Well, I try to be anyway...

This seems like a nice place with caring and helpful members.

I've been searching for a way to share ideas with other good people online since I have limited contact with people now due in part to Agoraphobia. This is not something I'm used to, or had to deal with during my teens and 20's. I noticed it coming on in my 30's in a mild way. Now, I hardly leave the house unless I absolutely need to now. I always had a social anxiety problem I'll admit that.

Anyways,

For now, I just want to introduce myself and say hello. I'm a 41yo Male from New England USA. I hope to meet others here that I can relate to with similar struggles. I enjoy trying to offer help and advice when I can in return for the same along with my wacky sense of humor if appropriate.

Glad to be a part of this forum.

Welcome to forum and certain you will find lots of help and advice from kind people on here.
For first time since 2011 I have suffered from not wanting to go out. After 7 weeks in hospital in 2911 with bad depression I thought my settee only safe place and would not even go into garden. Eventually I was determined to go back to work but even after year back at work I still can't go back to socialising with old friends or colleagues at lunchtime.
This year have bought a swing seat always wanted since childhood to get out in garden and managed to sit on it twice now so pleased.
Also psychiatrist recommended meditation and pushed myself to go to two groups and found much easier going out with a purpose and talking to people who are strangers but who understand about mental illness,
it is much easier than socialising with old friends so just kept in touch with them by text and email so hope they are still there when can socialise, but know my true friends understand and will be.

Hi Lin, and thanks for that nice welcome. I'm happy I decided to join this place.

I'm glad to hear things seem to be getting better for you. This also gives me some hope too. I also had a brief hospital stay back in the late 90's for clinical depression amongst other things tbh. Congratulations on getting back to work - know its not easy and you should be proud of that. I hope to return to work myself shortly and return to some resemblance of whom I once was.

I agree with your psych, finding groups (such as this online) is a great way to meet other nonjudgmental people - with an understanding of mental illness. I had to part ways with most of my older friends for this reason. With that said, you are right, true friends will understand and stick around. I'm lucky to have one solid friend that has been a Godsend to me. We write and talk occasionally on skype.

I'll try to save some other details for other threads and sections of this wonderful forum during my searching.

Thanks so much :)

I do hope to somehow contribute to your forum. Even if just to lighten things up a bit, when I can :)

I still have days, make no mistake. I've just gotten better at accepting my flaw (only 1 HAHA), and move along. What good does it do to worry about stuff I can't change, anyway. I think we all know the taste of s#it, and sometimes, all that is left, is to just laugh at our situations - no matter how crappy they are.
