It is definitely something you want to get more than one opinion about, or diagnosis about. Some of the symptoms are so common, that they can even be related to genetics and astrological personality traits. If it is something you in fact do have, the good thing is it is treatable, by use of Psychotherapy. I am going through college right now where we are talking about cognitive thinking skills in psychology and I am sure this is related to that because we have talked about it before. Ask your therapist about cognitive therapy. If they do not know what you are referring to, then I would not take their initial diagnosis seriously. Hope that helps!

If you're talking about Bipolar Disorder(my Dad was bipolar) it's a cycle of being "normal" for a period then getting manic("high" mood, lots of energy, flight of ideas, lots/too much social interaction, feeling like you can "fix the world", etc, or close to that) then a period of depression which can be hard. This can be less severe in some folks and more extreme in some others. It can cycle over long periods or be rapid cycling(much less common). Some cycles can be worse than others but it can be treated via group, individual psychotherapy as well as medication. You may not be Bipolar but the doc is best to judge that at the time and proper diagnoses is, like always, key. Lithium, sodium valporate and others are used to get the mood "normalized" then setting up a maintenance regime(usually one med but not always). If that's correct it can be treated and you accepting it and trusting/working with your doc is an absolute must. My Dad refused to accept this ever but others can and will work with their doc even after feeling good for a long time. You can go a long time between episodes if it is Bipolar. Anxiety at times can part of the depression stage. Alankay

Hi how are you. I have been bipolar for 30 years. I have bipolar 1. But back then they didn't call it bipolar. They called it manic depressive. My hole family on my moms side has it. Am just woundering if you have any family history. That would make it a little easier for the doc. But I will tell you some things I went through. Well when I go manic I will feel like I can do anything. Some times I will have racing thoughts I can not stop need meds. It's like have a high blood presser you need to take meds you can't stop it. It's the same thing with the raceing thoughts. And the manic and depressed part of it. Then comes the depression you hit your low for me ill stay in bed and sleep like 15 hours a day lol. Yeah it sucks and them comes the thinking well maybe if I end it it will all go away. Now these thoughts you can not stop. But going on meds is the best thing I have ever done. So don't be scared if doc wants you on meds. But it mite take you a long time to find the right ones for you. It toke me a year to find the right ones. So don't get frustrated. If you go on YouTube and put in bipolar you can learn a lot that why to. If you need to talk am here for you.
