Hey y'all, going to the doctor (again) for another attempt at getting medication for my anxiety. My life has once again snowballed out of control, and I need to do something to get it under control. I have been on (2) different SSRI's, paxil and I think zoloft. I was not able to last more than 3 weeks on them, because it made my anxiety unbelievable worse and I just didn't seen an positive side effects. Also, recently was prescribed buspirone, but didn't really seem to experience any side effects, good or bad, so I decided it wasn't working and stopped after a month.

Then there are benzos. Been prescribed everything from xanax to klonopin. They help with the immediately with my anxiety, but I have a lot of issues with them. For one, I feel tired and very disconnected from reality. I just kind of sit around at work and home and don't get anything done. Secondly, I admittedly have an alcohol problem and have mixed benzos with booze before (I know the risk) and don't want to overdo that somehow and OD. Thirdly, I am very compulsive and either take more than the recommended dose, and end up like a zombie... one time I took my whole bottle of ativan and ended up in the ER.

Benzos are the only thing that seem to get my anxiety under control, but as I have stated above, I have a hard time with them. In my recent exposure to Benzos I have had a better handle on them than I have had in the past, but i'm not sure if I want to feel like a zombie day in and day out. Anyways, I am writing this thread in the hopes of someone supplying me with advice or recommendations on a medication that may be beneficial. There doesn't seem to be a lot of consensus on a cure-all medication and seems to be dependent on the person taking the medication, but if anyone has anything to share it would be very appreciated.

Two popular drugs are lexapro and effexor.

Lexapro fixed anxiety but caused constant fatigue and lack of energy. Try this slowly.
