Well went to a shrink today and she suggested Paxil 10mg. Medical doc thinks Atenenol. Who to trust or believe. Atenolol sounds prefect for me but is more scary. Paxil also sounds good and I think I would benefit from it short term.

Yes that's helps. Love hearing what people have to say instead of reading side effects or googling it.

I have tried loads of different anti depressants this last 2 years as body rejecting lots this time for some reason, which accepted in previous bouts. I have been put on brand new one now Agomelatine and also have diazepam and sleeping tablets. I trust my psychiatrist and Dr and try what they suggest until I can feel they are not working or others can see problems.
I also do other things like meditation and reflexology and essential oils. Which all help too. I always check with Dr that alternatives I am trying are OK with tablets. Psychiatrist recommended meditation and it is brill. I go to two groups - a Buddha and Christian one. The Buddha one follows the NHS mindfulness course guided meditation which is good, whereas the Christian one is 20 minutes silence with a one word mantra. Have made some really nice friends at the groups and got me out of the house at night after nearly 2 years. Lots of people there have had illnesses so good to talk to too.

Atenolol is a good betablocker! I don't know if i'm suppose to do this but I don't take it all of the time, I take it only sometimes if I have a really bad attack. About a year ago I was prescribed it because of tachycardia when the heart beats too fast due to anxiety is what the cardiologist said. At first it made me feel kind of tired, I think because i'm always a nervous person and it was like my heart was slowing and I was so used to the adrenaline, kind of weird but thats how it felt but it worked great especially for heart palps.

I'm not sure if your asking the person who started the post anthony..but I will answer for myself, my heartrate was def over 100 all of the time. I don't know what was up with me. It was like a brief couple month period where it stayed that way and thats why I got on atenolol, but now I do not really have to take it as my heartrate has gone down alot unless I get bad anxiety.

If rapid heart beat is a big problem/main issue, atenolol will help tons. If you have more wide ranging symptoms, an ssri is a better bet. Atenolol will help at once, the ssri will take 4-6 weeks. Alankay

My main thing is anxiety I guess. It causes the rapid heart rate, panic, elevated BP, and stomach issues. Atenolol sounds good but the anxiety will still be there causing the other problems. It will control my BP and pulse and some of my PVCs but will not help my overall anxiety or stomach issues. Paxil may help my anxiety which in turn will lessen everything else. So I'm really leaning toward Paxil but I don't want to mess with my head too much or get worse when I go off of it ever.

Well I would avoid the paxil for zoloft or citalopram(celexa). Most don't have the issues you might read about when stopping but ...some do. I would say the pdoc is best as far as treating your for anxiety in general(some GP's are good as well) as long as he/she is willing to consider you preferences and work with you. Some can kind be too single minded in a way. :) Just some. Alankay

I'm taking paxil right now. I just got back on it after three years, I have been on and off of it all of my life. The side-effects i'm noticing are bad headaches and sometimes trouble sleeping, hopefully it will pass! But yea I do agree it is horrible coming off paxil if you do not put another anti-depressant in place. One time I went off of it cold turkey because I ran out and did not have insurance to go back to the doctor and I mean not trying to scare anyone but I was laughing and crying at the same time and just having extreme anxiety, it was weird but goodluck with your decision paxil is very good for anxiety symptoms its just the withdrawals are not so nice.
