Hi there. This is my first post but I've been lurking around for a while. If I'm supposed to post an introductory message before jumping into the forums please let me know - I'll be happy to do so. In the meantime I have a few questions about Prozac, if I may:
I've been on 20 mg. for the past 22 years and it's been a life-saver. But for the past few months I'm starting to have a lot of anxiety and the dreaded panic attacks are returning. I'm pretty sure it started because my hyperthyroidism started acting up again but even though we're getting that back under control, the panic attacks are back since I'm in constant fear of having one. I'm sure I don't have to explain to any of you how that works. :(
Part of me is thinking I should just give up the Prozac since it's not working anymore anyway and try to find another way to get this under control, but the bigger part of me is saying that perhaps I should increase my dosage. In the past when I've gone through some challenging times my doc has told me to feel free to increase my dosage since I've been on 20 mg. for over 20 years but I never have. Now I'm seriously considering it because I do NOT want this anxiety to steal my life from me again!
My questions are:
If I go from 20 mg. to 40 mgs, will I have to go through the horrible side affects that I did 22 years ago when I first started Prozac?
If I take 20 one day and 40 the next (alternating days) would that be a successful way of being at 30 mgs?
Is it feasible that perhaps I have become immune to Prozac after so many years and/or that my chemistry has changed so that I can and will benefit from an increase in dosage?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.... and thanks for being here. This forum has been a God-send for me lately!
