Hi all,
I am new on this forum. I am 45 yrs old female who recently has had anxiety problems, due perhaps to menopause or health anxiety issues. My doctor put me on Lexapro 10 mg, and I started taking it 25 days ago. Aling with lexapro she also prescribed klonopin .50mg to take when needed until lexapro kicks in. I have tried to limit the klonopin as much as possible, skipping few days or taking half of the pill, however day /5 on Lexapro, I still have anxiety and don't seem to improve much! I have lack of appetite that bothers me a lot, fearing that my appetite will never be same as it was.
I need your help! Is it common to have the anxiety linger for this long on Lexapro? Should I be concerned? I would really appreciate it if anyone can shed some light onmy situation.
Thank you so much,
Liverette

It can take 2 weeks or more for any antidepressant like lexapro to begin to help, and sometimes it won't reach full effect for up to 6 weeks. Hang in there. I just started a new med 2 weeks ago and just started feeling better myself.

Jbevis,
Thank you for replying to my message. I am just afraid that I'm not improving like most people are feeling it in week 2 or 3, and that is causing me more anxiety. I just took a .25mg Klonopin to get the agitation away....what kind if medication are you taking for uour anxiety?
Thanks,
Liverette

You've been on the lexapro 5 days you said? It took at least twice that for me to feel anything. Try to be patient, I know it's hard. I am on Effexor now and I have lorazapam to take when it gets real bad. The first week I had to take the lorazapam 3 times a day just to be calm enough to function. Now I just take it in the morning when my anxiety is the worst. Hopefully soon I can stop it altogether and just take the Effexor and be fine.

Oh jeez I guess I read that wrong. Have you spoken to your doctor about it?

Lean a little on the klonopin but the side effects should pass soon. Alankay

Thank you all for your reply! My anxiety now is about getting or not getting better. My mind goes in circle thinking constantly if I'm ever going to get well. I wish I could occupy my mind with other interests! And the lack of appetite is scaring me a bit too.
I am glad I'm here to find support. It's difficult for our loved ones to understand us when they have never had anxiety issus.
Thanks again!

Well, I decided to take 5 mg lexapro as oppose to 10mg. I feel like I was better before I started on Lexapro. My focus is totally gone, anxious most of the time... I will try the 5mg fir few days and see if I see any positive change.
What do you think?
Thanks,

Decide how much you want to take then stick with it :) I took 5 mg for a few days then 10 mg and I'm still on 10. It took a month before I started feeling better. At first I had more panic attacks and I felt worse than before, but now that that's over with I'm pretty much panic free! My advice is stick with the 10 mg - it stinks for a few months but after that its totally worth it!

I would say it was a good 3-5 weeks before I felt a difference at 10 mg, I'm currently at 15 and am doing pretty good 95% of the time. Just takes time to get in your system.
