Hi, I'm new here. I have had depression for a long time now, since I was a teenager and in the past 2 years its progressed to being really bad..I dont work, haven't in about 1.5 yrs..I think me not working and not being out and about every day with people around me has made me super anxious. I suffer from really bad anxiety also.. it comes out in social settings mostly and anytime I have to talk to poeple, in restuarants..even talking with my friends and family..it's just gotten so bad that I have not seen my friends in a long time and have stopped socializing in general..besides talking to my boyfriend who I live with..I have gone to the doctor before and she got me on celexa..which was kind of ok but only made me a bit crazy when I took the pills..then I tried wellbutrin and that didn't work at all..and run out of insurance and now I am on nothing...I have tried theanine, valerian supplements..they don't really work...it just sucks that I have to resort to having a beer or two everytime I wanna go to eat out or any social setting...it's so bad, I have been avoiding getting jobs..because I'm terrified of having an interview even...also yesterday I had a dentist appointment and I got so nervous..when I'm anxious my head starts to shake..does anyone else have that?..it's pretty noticeable and the dentists picked up on that..so I just told them straight up I have anxiety..but they didn't really make me feel at ease..besides saying just relax..really.? If it were that easy I would duh..I'm just at my wits end..and I think I'm about get on prescription meds again for depression/anxiety. Does anyone have suggestions as to what's the best cure naturally or for prescription..and how to ease anxiety level going to the dentist or doctor?

A beta blocker like propranolol 20mg-40 mg would help with the shaking/tremor/racing heart for which an rx is needed. You can try to find a Nurse Practitioner with prescribing privileges to save some money. Call ahead and ask if she treats anxiety/depression. Ask for zoloft since the celexa mad you feel funny. I have the same issue with dentists but some valium and say 30-40mg of propranolol does the trick. Counseling would be a good idea but I know there is a money issue with that for you. Alankay

Hi,
My girlfriend sometimes gets tremors when she is feeling extremely anxious. I help her by reminding her to breathe. Maybe just being mindful of your breathing would be a good start
I recommend taking tablets if they are working for you, but there are alternatives to look at too. If you can access them try something like meditation - you can join a group for this, but if you can't afford it, there are loads of free meditation tapes on the internet, or you can just learn by each day sitting for a few minutes and just concentrating on your breath. You let any thoughts which come into your head come and pass by and not worry about them and go back to concentrating on your breathing. You can gradually build up the time you do this each day or the way you do it - guided by CD or in a group, or on your own. Meditation will calm you down and will bring you some head space every day which gradually helps in all parts of your life.
I have terrible trouble with going out, but my meditation has helped me by reminding me on breathing slowly and thoughtfully while out so that I don't start to get anxious and panic.
Just a suggestion, but it may be worth you trying it.
