I'm taking .5mg of xanax xr which is not a lot. I'm 22 years old and I have been on them for a month now I take one in the morning and one in the evening and some times I'll take one more if I'm having a really rough day. They have helped a lot with my anxiety and I haven't had a panic attack since I have been on them. However, I stopped drinking completely because I'm afraid of what the alcohol will do to me since I'm on Xanax. I feel bad because my boyfriend just turned 21 and he wants to go out with me but I'm always afraid to even have one drink because I don't know how it will react with the Xanax. Does anybody have any advice on this matter. I want to have fun with my boyfriend and I don't want the Xanax to keep me from doing that.

Back in the day when I was taking ativan twice a day, I would sometimes take my first dose in the morning and then later that night I would end up drinking. So I ended up skipping my night dose. Only a couple drinks would make me become drunk and the next day was hell. I would not recommend it. If you do, stick to one drink preferably beer or wine.

If you want to drink just don't take the Xanax that day if you can handle your anxiety

Be careful of the benzo blackouts tho you can feel great wen ya drink on em bt then you wake up n realise you cant remember anything. They linger in yer system 4 long time so jus 1 or 2 drinks and no more trust me lol benzos n liquor can turn the nicest people nasty

Consuming alcohol with any prescription drug is always risky. I would say to simply avoid taking it the day you plan to drink.

I like my wine and admit I drink more than I should while taking Meds. And when on antidepressants and heavy drinking yes I've had blackouts ... Where I'm like a different person. Limit your alcohol on any Meds. Or you will have side effects most likely unwanted

Skip the dose or take just half but alcohol will make the xanax more powerful and you might get a bit drowsy. If you may drive........forget it. Probably best to skip the dose and if anything maybe take 1/2 when you get home and go to bed. I'd skip the dose if it were me. Alankay

Is medication a good option to get rid of anxiety? And what about the side effects?

To me the side effects are worth it to live free without anxiety. Ive been on Celexa for years and it helped immensely. Unfortunately my dr had to lower my dose due to new FDA findings that high doses can cause severe arrhythmia. Now my anxiety is back with a vengeance. In truth I can't wait to start a new med even if it may be rough at first because if I can have more anxiety free days the trouble of trying the new meds will be well worth it. I just want to feel normal again.

I was prescribed .25mg of alprozolam the generic of Xanax. I rarely use it. Only if I really need it but even then I try not to. I dont know if I could go on regular scheduled dosing. I'm taking magnesium supplements and b vitamins and trying to eat well. Apparently it does what the meds do except eating well brings nutrition to the affected neurotransmitters and helps the brain produce more while the meds only make the neurotransmitters that are already there more active, so hopefully that works.

I m from the uk can I get the same medicines prescribed?
I m between 2 minds I m afraid 2take any tablets because of addiction and the fact that in my community if u r taking meds 4 mental health that means u r coucou ( crazy )
I no it s silly but every1 warning me from taking dem
I did do a bit of research about magnesium and I no it helps with anxiety
But something in my head telling me that I should not take any vitamin supplements unless I ve a deficiency other wise they will harm me

Most vitamin supplements are very safe and your body needs them. Our bodies were made to use vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. They are crucial for mental health and overall health. Some vitamins you don't want to over do it on and some there is no limit. Magnesium is very safe. If you take too much all it is going to do is make your bowels move if you catch my drift. About 400mg of magnesium over the course of the day is good and considered the RDA. I would recommend Magnesium Glycinate, Malate, or Taurate. Those are the best absorbed and less likely to upset your bowels. Or a product called Natural Calm is wonderful! It is a powdered magnesium that you mix in warm water and drink.

If you take meds for anxiety you are far from crazy. It is not exactly a mental disorder. Everyone has the anxiety natural "fight or flight" response, even animals. But us humans live such stressful lifestyles that sometimes we get stuck in that natural fight or flight mode and it causes anxiety. I personally would go the all natural route but if that doesn't work and or you are truly suffering talk to a doctor about medication.

If you can manage to just use the xanax as needed that would be better. If you are suffering you can go on regular dosing if your doctor allows. A better drug from regular use would be klonapin or generic clonazepam. Its the same kind of drug but lasts much longer in the system. They do have potential for addiction so if you took them everyday for a while you would get hooked. If its every once and a while you should be fine. I took klonapin 3 nights a week for several months and had no dependance issues. I would suggest you stay on the all natural path. It has helped me tremendously.

Read this book; The Mood Cure by Julia Ross
I just got it and it really seems like the advice in there will help. It's about using amino acids along with good nutrition to get your imbalances in your brain to normalize.
