Hello everyone, i'm new here (though i've lurked this forum for a while and it's been really helpful). I have a bit of a random question which I know I should ask my doctor but it only just popped into my head and i'm wondering if anyone can help for now- i've been prescribed citalopram for anxiety and I never take tablets for things usually as I really struggle with taking tablets unless I cut them smaller first. I only started taking them yesterday and it took me nearly an hour to take the first tablet which is absurd! I was wondering if it's possible to cut it in half to make it easier to swallow whilst I get used to taking it daily (taking both halves obviously), or would this hinder/change its effect/be dangerous etc.? Sorry if this is a silly question :3 thank you!

They sell pill splitters at the pharmacy. Yeah it's done all the time. Alankay

Awesome thank you, it's definitely okay to do so even with coated tablets?

Yep. I have for years with both lexapro(on prozac now) and 5mg finesteride into quaters(for hair loss). In fact many pills come scored to make them beak in half easier. Pill splitting has been around a long time as a cost saver and dose tweaker.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pill_splitting). You'll see citalopram on the list on that page. Ask the pharmacist too. :) Alankay
