My name is Nicole and I am a 19 year old college sophomore. I have been struggling with anxiety for the last 2 months and I am having a very hard time. I am dealing with a lot of physical symptoms as a result of my anxiety, not mention the emotional toll that it is taking. I go to school 10 hours away from my family, so that has also made the whole situation a bit harder. I am so ready to start enjoying my life again, and I felt like joining this forum would be good for me. I am excited to connect with people who have an understanding of what I'm going through!

Hi there, im 19 and at college too. anxiety has taken over my life pretty much, im failing my exams.. I went away 2 weeks ago on a nice weekend with my boyfriend to get away with it all and ended up crying the whole weekend. i then decided that something needs to be done. I keep telling myself that being negative is just a waste of time- life is short. i wrote a list of pros and cons about my life which made me think- why am I even feeling like this- my life is perfect! I am now getting back to normal, its not easy but it has to be done. i really hope you get through this! go out and do more things :-))))

Honey: Thank you I really appreciate it!
rhar: I have had a random assortment of symptoms that have come and gone. At first I was having tension headaches and general muscle soreness from being so on edge all of the time. Then I started experiencing numbness in my hands and feet and then that subsided. Currently I am dealing with spells of feeling lightheaded and dizzy and feeling like I'm about to burst into tears. When I experience this it's hard to concentrate and focus. I have also been feeling random pains in my chest muscles lately, and they are mostly on the left side. They aren't very painful at all just a little tinge. They are not persistant and I just feel them randomly throughout the day. I also feel the same random pains at the top of my back on the same side. I figure it's just due to muscle tension as I know that my muscles are very tense most of the time, but it's still a bit alarming since it involves my chest. These things are all so frustrating as I know that I pay to much attention to everything little thing that goes on in my body. It just gives me another reason to freak out.
katyats: Thanks so much! I hope so too! I'm glad that you are feeling better

I have the same symptoms. Have been dealing with them for almost a year now.

The worst one is the lightheaded/dizzy and feeling like I could faint sensations.

I too have trouble focusing because all I think about is how and what I am feeling.. It's awful :(

It really is terrible! It's so hard to focus in class and at work. I am doing my best to take deep breaths and calm myself down when I start feeling this way but that's much easier said than done!

It really is easier said than done.

I too at times get feeling like my legs can't move and I feel like I'm going to fall over. Sometimes it happens worse when I am sitting, I feel like I'm on a boat swaying side to side.

It's awful and ppl who have never experienced it just can't understand how scary and horrendous it is!!

I also, after a particularly bad day feel kind of drunk or in a trance like state which freaks me right out!!

Sound like GAD. Does college have a student health service covered by tuition? Many colleges do. See about a counselor for a start if you can. Alankay

Alankay: I actually have my first appointment to meet with a counselor through the health center at my school this coming week. I am very excited to talk with a professional and get a handle on this!
