Any last minute thoughts on beta blockers. Gonna start atenenol tomorrow for BP and anxiety. Suppose to help both and lower heart rate. Heard good and bad things about it. Currently on Altace for BP for 10 years but wondering if I should switch and why he wants me on it. BP is fine on Altace as long as I'm not anxious. Figured atenenol could help with both. Heard atenenol can increase risk of diabetes but can help with heart palps, panic attacks, and BP. Sounds like a wonder drug for me but scared to go down a new path. Especially one that can cause real illnesses like diabetes.

I used it for many years and it helped allot at 50mg. It did lower my pulse too much over time(since I'm a runner with a low pulse anyway) so we switched to propanolol, 20-40mg, and that's been great too. Alankay.

Hello,
I am on Inderal as of last month, and it has made a really big difference to my life so far. I have both panic and anxiety disorders, both made much much worse by being in the last stages of perimenopause.
I had never taken a beta blocker in my life, but I was briefly hospitalized in Dec for a non stop racing heart and the subject of beta blockers was brought up at that time and my own psy thought it a great idea and we got started on the Inderal in addition to Celexa for my eating disorder and depression.
Google around, see if you think it may be something that could help you.

Thanks Vicky for your input. I like to ask around on here and not google bc of the horror stories. Tomorrow is the day I chose to start so wish me luck. I like most on here are super sensitive to meds

You are very welcome, I hope your new medication will work out well for you.
We are all so different, one person's 'dream' pill, is another person's worst 'nightmare' pill.
I am having pretty good success with Inderal, which is a beta blocker, and am on a lowish dose ( 40 mgs a day ), she mentioned to me that it can be as high as 320 mgs per day for panic disorder.
Best of luck !

Have been putting the atenonol off Bc I just feel in my gut it's not a road I should go down. I mean my BP is fine when relaxed and my resting pulse is between 60-70. I really don't have pvcs or skipped beats much anymore. Not really sure why he and other docs are suggesting it. When I'm at the doc my BP is up and pulse is up but I tell them it's only when I'm panicky. I even showed them the BP cuff past readings I took. I always say don't fix it if its not broken. The Altace I'm on now is working for my BP but does nothing for my anxiety or adrenaline. I know the atenonol would but being on a beta blocker scares me. Really torn on what to do. It's causing me even more anxiety.

Beta blockers tend to work very well for people with hypertension. I only have experience with Propranolol and can only take a small dose because I don't have hypertension and I have bradycardia. It makes me feel nice and calm (but not drugged), but a little dizzy.
