Hey guys. My name is Amy and I'm 22 years old. I've written here before about my acute eating disorder, fear of throwing up and of coarse ex bf drama. But today I'm curious to know who has adult onset ADD/ADHD? I got tested this past year and I was just put on adderall xr. It's done amazing things for me and I'm super focused but I feel like my memory sucks! I use to remember everything and seriously I had the absolute best memory but now I'm just like um did I wear this shirt already etc... It's weird. School is definitely a lot better and my hyper-ness went down. I only take it 4x a week and I'd say that It is working where I can even take it 2x a week. So is there anyone here that has ever been on adderall xr or even any add meds that could kinda give me their take on this and their story! Thanks and hope all of yall are doing well :)

Hey Amy. I just got diagnosed at 26. It is completely normal as add testing was not popular when we were little kids. My advice is to start taking ADHD meds your doc will prescribe. They help unbelievably! My OCD and anxiety arose from my I diagnosed add and when I take my daily medication these symptoms just go away. Start at a smaller dose because you do get use to them and eventually will need to go to a higher dose. Two a day is good for me. I take 30 xr adderal in the morning and 10 mg in the afternoon. My days have been so much easier since I started this dosage. I was just released from a psych treatment program and this is what they prescribed. I've been taking it for 2 weeks now and it's made more of a difference than any antidepressant/anxiety pill I've ever taken. Let me know if you have any questions as I would be happy to elaborate.

Btw Amy I did not have memory issues but it may jut be a psychological/anxiety thing where you constantly think about the memory issue, thus is turns into an obsession. Just my take but I could be wrong. Anyone else care to share?

Hey! Yeah adderall xr has been great. I've been taking it for 6 months and it is definitely showing good results in my classes! I guess the memory thing is just in my head because the days I'm not on it I'm all good lol. So it sounds like you take it all day, thats good it's working for you! Adderall really helps me to be calm as well so that's a plus point for my anxiety lol!
Thank you for replying :)

By ADHD attention deficit hyperactivity disorder I to have this and have lives with it for years and years never once taking the medication I was prescribes as I feel it changed me as a person instead of just calming me down but all means its down the the person suffering : )

Hi, everyone. First time poster. Is it common for ADHD to manifest in young adults? I'm 22 and for the last 6 months I've had increasing difficulty with concentration and memory retention. Which has become a serious problem since my job requires both of these traits to be extremely sharp.
Also, if I suspect this is an issue, what should be my first course of action?

Your first course of action should be find a facility to get your add testing! I got diagnosed last year at age 21 so I've been on adderall xr for 6 months. You take it as needed basis so I take mine about 3x a week. I am fairly tiny 100 lbs 5'6 so I take off days so I can eat. It really suppresses your diet. So make sure you get yourself tested first and then talk your doctor :)

Thanks Amy! I'll get right on that. Does anyone know if a PCP can diagnose ADHD? My insurance doesn't cover any psychiatry-related or psychology-related appointments. -A
