Random shots of depression?

Is it normal to have brief (1-2 hour) surges of depression when building up on a new medication?

Me and my friends were just chillin and having a great time, then went to some buffet to eat. 2 minutes into eating I just felt depressed as hell, it eventually went away but I seem to be getting these daily in the afternoon (usually after 6pm).

I just have random shots of depression, but I'm not on any meds. I wont take them. I will feel fine towards night time. but around 5pm I feel like crap. Yesterday was all day long until about 12am. My counselor thinks it might be my thyroid. IDK. I just hate this crap.
