Has anyone on here had success with self help books and deep breathing relaxation excercises? The counselour I go to recommended I try them out but from the looks of it I haven't heard any success stories from others.

I don't know about self help books but I have trained myself to control my breathing more and I have to say that it has significantly reduced the frequency of my panic attacks and if I do get one I can stop it in a couple of minutes before it takes hold.

When I was first diagnosed I used the anxiety and phobia workbook by Edmund Bourne. It's great at walking you through all sorts of treatments and helping you learn what works for you. For me, journaling has always made a huge difference, but I've always found structured breathing to be difficult while I'm panicking.
