What do you take for GERD/ acid reflux

Hi, just looking at the best treatment as the doc gave me omeprazole a while back but I read it has nasty side effects not sure how true but wondered if anything like gaviscon is good?

I take prilosec but it isn't good to stay on it for long because of the long-term effects it has.
