I hate the adrenaline rush you get when you feel an anxiety attack coming on. Its like a horrible feeling that something bad is going to happen. It can happen at any time without reason

My attacks come out of nowhere too. But I don't avoid doing things or going out because it's going to happen whether I'm there or at home.
If it happens when I'm out, at least I'll have done something that I need to do & then I can go home. That's the only way that I can stay semi productive.

Are there certain triggers for your attacks?

temperancebrennan
01-14-2013, 04:44 PM
Just my symptoms. If my hands get cold, that can trigger it. If I think too much about walking or using my hands, that can set it off.
Basically, if I feel anything similar to what happens when I have an attack, it sets one off.
Sometimes though it will just happen with no warning.

Are there techniques you use to help?

temperancebrennan

I've been using Bachs remedies, but I don't know if they're just a reassurance.
I sometimes play solitaire on my phone or pluck hairs from arms (weird I know haha)
But it can take me a long time to calm down.
Do you have any coping techniques?

Currently I do breathing, yoga, meditation and visuals seems to help for awhile then it doesn't 😒

When I'm out I feel like everyone is judging me because I am overwhelmed with anxiety...

What are visuals?

I know what you mean about people judging you though. People at work judge me for it. But I just have to think, they've not experienced it, so they have no room to judge.

When I am feeling anxiety, I visualize my special place usually a beach, warm, hearing the waves splash on the shore. It helps to be there for a moment...

You are right, they don't know how it feels, thank you!

Oh right.
I find it very hard to think of or focus on anything when I feel panicky. I've tried doing the relaxation CDs that tell you to imagine similar scenarios, but I always end up not being able to lay still or keep my eyes closed :(

Sometimes when I listen to those cd's I too am distracted. I will often think about what if I don't hear my phone and start a cycle of anxiety... Hard to relax!!!! It is good to know there are others like me :)

You're definitely in the right place.
I'm just hoping that we can all help each other to get better. Sharing tips & advice. It's a good place to be.
I want to eventually come off my medication & be happy to take each day as it comes. I want that for everyone.
I'm trying various things that people have suggested on here, so if they work for me too, then I can let other people know & hope it will work for them too.

I agree wholehearted!! To be off my meds would be a dream come true. Can't wait to find new things to try....

What medication are you on at the moment?
What other things have you tried so far?

I'm going to get my doctor to test for B12 deficiency as I've read that it can be a cause of anxiety. Common in vegetarians too (which I am),
If its low, then I can use supplements. Also going to try magnesium citrate.

I've cut caffeine from my diet & introduced more blueberries & wholegrain bread & other foods that are meant to help.

That's great that you have taken steps
Toward your goal! I am on lorazepam currently and have cut caffeine from my diet, still working on sugar (I have a sweet tooth). I have taken a one a day vitamin due to the lack of meat in my diet also....

Are blueberries helping ? Is it just blueberries or any fruit helpful?

temperancebrennan

Have you found any benefits so far?

I'm going to buy almonds (for the magnesium) & dried fruit (instead of sweets, as I have a thing for vegetarian jelly sweets)

It's going to be hard to get better, but I'm determined. Over 4 years is far too long to have suffered. So by trial & error, I am going to do everything I can to get better. Anything that works, I'm going to share to help everyone in this position.

I read that blueberries in particular are meant to be good for anxiety. I drink the Naked blueberry smoothies. It's lovely (although expensive).

I have found a significant lowering of mood
Swings getting really hyper attentive or really sad, I am more even and I am now at a point where I can learn to control further symptoms...I think eating better makes my skin look better!!

May I ask your name & where you're from?

Cutting out caffeine (I used to be a diet coke addict hah) was a big step as I did realise that it could bring on an attack if I had some. I still suffer on a daily basis with my symptoms, but I'm hoping that other changes will help.

Yeah, eating better does make you feel better as well as make your skin etc better. Whenever I go on a health kick I find I'm not as tired & feel a bit happier.
