I have been subscribed vistaril is anyone on them? And if so do they make u feel better? Do u still feel weird? Or does it just stop the panic? I have a doctors appointment tomorrow I haven't left the house in 2 days and I'm so scaRed that I'm gonna panic while I'm there :(
I suffered from panic attacks for 9 tears b4 I got on meds! I have been taking Lexapro for almost 2 years now and it has literally changed my life!!!! I still have some panic attacks but no trips to the ER and I can control them better now!!! it does not cure them, but it levels out the craziness in my brain!!! I was terrified to take meds, but I got really bad and had to try something! They really do help me! Hope this helps!

Vistaril is an older antihistamine with good anti-anxiety effects. It will help quickly but has no/very low abuse potential. :) I'm surprised this med is not used/tried more often. It helped me. This med works on serotonin and glutamate. It enhances serotonin(calming) and blunts gutamate(an "exciting" neurotransmitter, so more calming).
If Chinese food makes you feel crummy it's because of the increase in monosodiumglutamate(MSG). Anyway vistaril will help calm you by working on these 2 neurotransmitters. Well that's as best I understand it. I bet a pharmacist could get it spot on but I'm sure I have the gist right. Alankay.

I was most always in a state of panic, was always afraid of meds, fighting myself miserable. I finally gav in tired meds, was hard adjusting to it. But after a few weeks so very much better!!!! I think MSG is a food additive, like a flavour enhancer & as far as I know it's common in Chinese takeaway food.

Msg is also in many foods from supermarket. Look for an ingredient called flavour enhancer 621 (this is msg). Common in chicken flavored snack foods like potato chips, 2 min noodles etc. I avoid it as much as possible especially avoid it for my kids.

MSG can bother some folks. http://www.livestrong.com/article/378333-the-side-effects-of-monosodium-glutamate-msg/
Just a nuisance and should be avoided if it bothers you. Alankay
