I've noticed alot of people here have seen or are seeing a psychiatrist.
So i'm just wondering does it help? Do you have to pay?
I feel like getting to the bone of my depression is my best bet as I dont want to take medication or involve friends and family.
Thanks

You'll want to find a psychologist if you just want talk therapy, psychiatrists perscribe medication. I've seen both and had copays for all, how much depends on your insurance plan.

I suppose I should note that I've been in therapy on and off for 25 years, I've been to the psychologist, the psychiatrist, the accupuncturist, the holistic dr, the energy healer, had individual therapy, family therapy, in short EVERYTHING. And I find the psychiatrist the most helpful, but it's all very individualized.

If you're stuggling a pdoc is fine, even prefered. Just remember, you may need to try a couple to find one you're comfy working with so if you're not comfy with a given doc....fire him(try another). Go to the next one. I am shocked/surprised by the variation in attitude and personality of pdocs. Some have a slave/master attitude(almost). Others are kind, understanding, sympathetic, open you your preferences, etc, yet firm as to what they think best to treat you. Key is finding a good one you are comfy workign with. Alankay.

Counting my bleesings. There are some folks in this World with a boatload of real, serious problems. Some of those people live in 3rd world countries with little help or have no family, etc. Others I know of have serious illnesses(Cancer, crippling arthritis, severe weight issues, sick children, etc) and I just have anxiety and otherwise healthy with a gal I love, dogs and brothers, friends, work, etc. It helps to get and keep a good perspective.
Also getting educated/knownledgible on anxiety or your condition. It's empowering to know allot.
