I have appt with my dr coming up and I'm planning on asking to switch medications. I have no complaints with with the lexapro that I'm taking, except for the price. I tried the generic and experienced very intense and dark suicidal thoughts, and it scared me to the point of insisting on going back to the brand. but the brand is no longer covered by my insurance and costs $135 a month.
Has anyone else made a switch between meds? Were the side effects bad? Pros and cons?

Switching comparably dosed ssri's is easy for the most part. Starting and stopping can be hard at times. If you're at 10 mg ask the doc to rx 20 mg tabs and split them with a pill splitter. It might save some money so research it by asking the pharmacy about the price diff. between the two first. Avoid paxil and effexor as they can be a bit harder to spot for some and try zoloft, celexa and prozac. Celexa is lexapro's chemical brother of sorts so ask your doc about that. You have to try these as there is lots of variation within individuals. Alankay.

Thanks, you know your stuff. I was on prozac years ago and wasn't a big fan, I felt like all my reactions were delayed. I will ask about celexa.
