I came across this forum when I was looking for anxiety support on the internet and thought I'd give it a try. I was diagnosed with anxiety and panic attacks at twelve years old, the doctor said I was way too young to be suffering from anxiety. I used to hear and see things at night and I still do on occasion. I sometimes find it really hard to cope, like I'm slowly going mad!

Really, I actually started getting attacks around 11 at the start of puberty. They subsided for years though. They didn't really start back until about 5 years ago and haven't been bad until a year ago (around the time my husband lost his job and my Uncle died). I am in my early 40's. Hearing and seeing things are not symptoms I have experienced. You may want to discuss this more with your Dr. Take care.

Yeah, it was mainly due to the bullying but it was partly puberty as well. Mine has never really subsided, just eased slightly. It wasn't extreme things, mainly white noise and floaters but you're probably right (I'm just too scared!) I'm sorry about your uncle. Thank you for replying!

Hello to both of you! It is interesting that you both have had severe anxiety in your childhoods. May I ask how you each coped with anxiety at those tender ages? There's an adolescent member here who is having a hard time, and I'm not sure how to help her. What would your advice be for someone whose adults are failing her?

Thanks in advance,
Sunnie

I think I barely coped, if I'm going to be honest. There were many times when I'd just lock myself away and let the thoughts and panic attacks come. I think eventually, I learnt to deal with it by talking to people as I got older, reading books sometimes helped as did doing puzzles such as sudoku. My advice would be to talk to someone, try and find breathing exercises to calm herself down. Even writing down her feelings may help. I
