Hi all.... New to this forum. Been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks.... Finally got the courage to see my doctor yesterday... I have been prescribed citalopram and diazepam.., took them last night for the first time.,,, cannot describe how horrible it was. Woke up this morning.... I feel more sociable and willing to make conversation with people but my head and body feel like they are on a different planet..,,I have read up on citalopram..,, and all I have seemed to discover is the hugely adverse side affects that people have had..., can any one share any positive outcomes on this medication? I have been weary about taking anti depressants in the past as I'm concerned once I'm on them it is very difficult to come off them....

Hi Kaylx, people love to complain on the internet and share horror stories, I'm not saying it never happens, but it isn't everyones experience. Also the people that are sharing suffer from mental illness so are their symptoms caused by the meds or their own minds? I have asked myself this question many times. I have looked at the statistics for anti-depressant vs placebo group (dummy pill) for lexapro and saw the most common side effects were nausea and headache, I had both of these in a mild form and some mild increase in anxiety (possibly caused by my worrying?). I don't know about Citalpram. I would suggest looking at the clinical trials (try google searching) amd looking at the hard evidence. I would also suggest googling "citalpram success stories or positive reviews". Don't read the negative stories, they will just scare you and none of that may happen to you. Try to be positive and optimistic. If you have a serious adverse reaction you will know. If your side effects are just "the usual", don't be scared, it's normal and just keep going, the side effects pass and each day you will feel better and better. PS I am no doctor and if you are really concerned please talk to your doctor.
All the best.
