Hi there! I did try to post this as a PM to the Moderator, but unfortunately it wouldn't allow me to as the Moderator's inbox was full.
I am a final year Psychology student at Coventry University and as part of my studies I am required to undertake a piece of research. I have identified a need for research in the area of individuals’ perception, expectations and experiences of Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy when living with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. I am writing to ask if it would be possible to recruit participants for this study from your online forum. I have approached your forum as the individuals who utilise your website/forum are suitable to the piece of research I am undertaking.
The research would be asking participants to answer in detail their experiences of partaking in Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (cCBT), or their feelings towards future participation. This would involve individuals being linked to an online survey or a form to be able to leave their contact details to arrange either a telephone or face-to-face interview. Whichever is most comfortable and convenient for the individual. In whichever method they choose, they will then be required to answer a series of questions relevant to their expectations before partaking in therapy, their perception of what therapy would be like and finally, their experience of how it felt to go through cCBT. Participants can choose to be completely anonymous throughout the study; data will be stored securely and destroyed once it is no longer required. My supervisor and I will be the only people who have access to the data. This study has been approved by the Coventry University Psychology Department Ethics Committee and is not externally funded.
I can paste a link for the survey to you and I can also provide a flow chart diagram of the expected process the participants will go through and any other documents you require. Ideally, I would like to begin data collection on 19th November 2012 but I am very happy to be guided by you on this. Once the research is complete, I would be happy to share the results and findings with you.
I would anticipate that participants would contact me via a link on your forum pages to complete the study in their own time and therefore there should be no disruption to you or the website.
I hope that you find the above project of interest and will be interested in working with me on it. Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours Faithfully,
K. Wells
