What do you do that makes you think you have OCD?

I have to touch things twice or an even amount of times. I pick scabs on my head to the stage where my head is so sore, I'm always picking it, I feel like I have to do it. I count to certain numbers for no reason and I'm even dreaming about numbers and counting them. I have to turn light switches on and off a certain amount of times. I have to have things in order otherwise it really irritates me and makes me angry. If someone touches me, they have to touch me again otherwise it doesn't feel right. My partner always has to kiss me twice. Even numbers, can't stand odd numbers. If I notice myself blinking, I have to blink again so it feels even. I say things and then say it again otherwise that will annoy me too. I wash cups/glasses out twice, wash my hands twice. I get really obsessive thoughts and obsess about something bad happening and picture a bad scenario in my head happening and then worry about it. The list goes on and on and on, trust me. I actually feel really embarrassed writing all of that.

No need to feel embarrassed, I can relate to some of those things, it can take me a very long time to leave the house!. The obsessive thoughts are very familiar too.

What have you tried, have you seen a specialist?

Nope, I have never mentioned my OCD to my doctor as I have always been too embarrassed to mention it. I have only ever mentioned my anxiety and depression to the doctor. I have a doctors appointment in a couple of hours so I am going to tell her everything and hopefully I'll get some help! Thank you.

I think I have OCD too. I have really scary thoughts about hurting myself and other people all day long. It sucks because I literally obsess over the thoughts and it ends up making me really anxious. It's like a battle within my brain that's like "you want to hurt them" "no I don't" "if I don't why am I thinking and obsessing of over doing it" it's terrible . I feel your pain.

When I drink from a bottle, I have to have the label facing a certain way/angle. I get undressed a certain way, my shoes have to be in a specific place and at a specific angle, I will only sit on one seat in my front room and I'll only ever sit in 3 positions, light switches have to 'even' on a twin socket, I only eat certain foods from certain supermarkets. I have tons more stupid stuff I do. I'm a proper mentalist but it has to be done !!

I have verified OCD. I have to do everything on even numbers, check to make sure things are unplugged, lights shut off twice before I leave. I find myself counting tiles and finding patterns wherever I see them. I color code objects, obsess over how frightening the color white is, panic my husband will wreck and check in with him constantly. A whole bunch of things. I don't know how to deal with mine. Please let me know how the appointment goes!

I have been given a new tablet called fluoxetine for my anxiety, depression and OCD and I think I am going to start CBT. I just want it to go. My head is so sore from picking it all the time but I can't stop it. I am obsessed with doing it :(

I know it sounds silly, but have you tried to wear mittens until the meds can help? I try to compromise with myself. Like if I have to count, then I'm going to count somethng useful like the number of canned peas I have and formulate lists. I gave up on trying to change the habit. That would send me into a panic attack. Like if I don't check the lights and plugs before I leave then I'm super afraid ill start a fire. I also put games on my iPad that keep my fingers and mind busy. Numbers Ames for me, but maybe active finger games for you? Or if you don't have an iPad try taking a pencil/pen and scribbling perfect circles until the feeling ones away. I used to have the same problem.

I have to check plug sockets and the oven a few times before I leave the house but not a certain number of times and not every single day (although it is most days) is that OCD or just worrying that I've forgotten ?

Thank you for your advice. Maybe I will try the mittens and games on the iPad. I also check things are off and then panic when I'm out that I haven't turned something off and my mind can't relax! x

I experience many of the behaviors mentioned here as well. One of the most bothersome for me revolves around organization. I'm obsessed w buying office supplies, and making to-do lists for my to-do lists...for my to-do lists.
